Is it possible that the variations are just parts of one massive kata. Like kanku has variations, but thay are so different that they could all be part of a single system. I would say the pinans as evident of that.

What kata might be the 27 i wonder. Could you provide a list of the kata with its asosiative numbers.

So when a move is repeated i would say that there are overlapping applications. Being i would take the first movements of the first set before the repetition, then the next from the following repetition and if the last one has two id pick the first one. Now i have an entry, a close and a finnish. Next i would create a little kata out of those moves and work out how they flow together into an application. Usually grappling to a take down. Then i can look at the moves left and find the variations. By using the moves that are left. This process reduces the number of possibilities and leads towards what might be the intended applications, which is my quest.

Great explanation. It looks like you are doing something with your waist too, althought it's hard to see what exactly because of your gi. Would you be able to make a follow-up wothout the gi? Thanks.

4th "Conspiracy Theory" (and I kind of go with #2 AND #4) is that 13 refers to the original 13 Chinese family settlement in Okinawa in the 1600's, about the time Seisan is said to have been codified/created.

Sanseru is from white crane (Ryu Ryuko via Higashionna) and niseishi (nepai) is from white crane (Ryu Ryuko via Go Kenki) although revised by Mabuni for his Shito-ryu so differs from Miyagi's Goju-ryu. But you're right, both kata are cranes.

Jesse Enkamp during his trip to China for his channel filmed a Chinese kung fu master of a style called _"Incense shop boxing"_ demonstrate and teach Seishan to him. The first part of it looks pretty much looks like what we're accustomed to. The rest, however, has a lot of different and very intricate moves according to him.

A nice summary. Shotokan's Hangetsu is another derivative of this form, that many incorrectly associate it w Sanchin. I think the internal aspect is more interesting, that's more transparent in the original White Crane version(s).

Many thanks. This reminds me of the ChiSao in Wing Chun. At a short distance, the tactile perception of pressure, felt via the contact points on the skin and muscles, is very helpful. why would you use a resistance band for slow movements? not criticising i just don't understand
@Karate108
@Karate108 4 жыл бұрын
Moving slowly allows for a more conscious effort of ensuring proper kinetic chains are utilized. It also avoids the break between reps that muscles usually get when moving quickly. Keeping resistance throughout a motion keeps everything engaged.

This technique has a lot of value for explosive devastating attacks to the connective tendons in between muscle groups as well. However you should be extremely confident in your speed and accuracy, and capable of defending against counter strikes in close quarters. I mix the technique with elbows, blocking(directly striking an incoming fist with an elbow and weakening their fist) and deflecting incoming strikes with the forearms. Use speed and fluidity with varied combinations to create the opportunity of openings. A traditional opening would be direct body, neck, or head strikes, but using the single knuckle from the inside can be especially versatile, easily worked into defensive combinations by deflecting and nullifying incoming strikes with elbows and forearms and then visciously knuckle striking the bottom-inside of a bicep 💪, top inside, and the softer area of the upper chest in between the pectorals and shoulder muscles, directly below the collarbone. A few well placed strikes to these areas will give you a distinct advantage if you can work the inside, but it's risky snd stupid for the average basement taught fighter to try this.

Yeah, OK... if we limit the view to Okinawa there is some truth in what you say, but sll it describes is that a lot of guys had their personal versions of it. But it far frim gets us back to the original Chinese kata they started out from. It is still trained in some Chinese martial arts and seems a lot more komplex - even if some guys have added something to it since it was taught to the Okinawans.

Good video; my vote is for your 'conspiracy #2". The reason is: A) "13" is the most common interpretation of the kata's name (though I'm admittedly no linguistics expert), and, B) Fukien fist sets, which are the major influencers of later Okinawan Karate, tend to be short and simple; my experience with Pak Mei and styles of Southern Mantis would strongly imply that repetition of moves in a form is usually the result of a particular instructor's emphasis on what he deems most important.
