Oh my goodness ! Wonderful stuff, I lived in the South East & never had the chance to visit Preston. But I guess us gricers all had a brilliant time spotting, no matter where we were . Duffle bag, packet of crisps, cheese sandwich, bottle of tizer, & our trusty Ian Allen book. And not a hi-vis or mobile phone in sight, happy days. Cheers.

The NRM back in the 90s and 2000s was the best it ever was. It really isn’t the same anymore.

4:25 That's an interesting sight. I can't find any other picutres or evidence of Columbine in the station hall.

Now this is a National Collection under one roof! I wish the NRM was still as jam-packed with locos as it was 20 years ago.

It’s sad that so many locos on your last visit such as the S56 (which I think will be moving back in a few years) have since been moved elsewhere. Pretty soon this museum won’t be the same place sadly. :(

The chap who had buried his wife's ashes after she died in 1991 said it was 7 years since she passed on. Making it 1998 when he was interviewed then the priest said he had passed away too and had his ashes sprinkled from a moving train!

It's an L & Y loco, a pacific I think. All scrapped by the early 1950s.

4-6-0 probably L & Y no. 50455 which was the last survivor of the class.

I've just come across this which is, without doubt, the best collection of Railway photographs of the Bolton area. I used Bradley Fold Station if the buses were on strike when I was an apprentice at Dobson and Barlows. I think the last passanger train to use the station was the Royal Train to Bolton when the Queen visited in 1967 (ish)

ELRPS... I was junior member no.0036. Now that WAS a long time ago lol I remember the Goods shed, and a couple of lines leading to the stages inside, a couple of locos (Planet did all the required shunting) the shop , the cafe and model railway....and that was about it really! The first time I went there with a school mate...Bury North signal box was still there and because we had walked from Victor avenue down the line we got shouted at by the siggie!

I remember being on Preston station as a young girl and being surrounded by steam engines. There was always one that let off steam, it used to frighten me. In the days when trains where trains, not them strange looking things they have now.

I had a Princess Coronation do that on me at Birmingham New Street in the 60's, right next to me. I've never heard a sound so loud before or since, either standing on the tarmac next to a jet plane or in a noisy disco. Mind-blowing!
