The Terrain is the same as the Chevy Equinox. I just changed my manifold as well. It came out split completely in two.

Great video there boss,,,nicely done. Getting ready to upgrade the whole brake system on my 2012 6.7 3500 SRW crew short bed with a 6.7 Cummins. I'm really leaning towards EBC as opposed to the stuff Power Stop offers. Rotors, calipers, everything. So I'm curious if you can steer me towards a vendor online or whatever I can order through who deals in EBC's products so I can order up the kit. Looking for a serious upgrade as I run this truck with a slide in camper full time, travel alot here in the western U.S. and want some serious brakes over this oem stuff. Besides it is all factory OEM. Also,,,would happen to know of anyone who makes stainless steel rotors for these trucks. Thanks again man for this vid and please keep up the great work brother!! Thank you and bless you and yours!! 😎👍

I drive a 2012 Captiva 2.4 in Germany (LE9 engine version). When replacing the timing chain components it's best to use an upgraded front guide with upgraded fixing bolts, obtainable in the US. A new tensioner should always be fitted and oil changes at max.10,000km.

So, what happened to the automatic chain tensioner? Did you fixed the old one, or did you had put a new one in the engine?

I have a eotec 2.2 in a 2005 chevy malibu ,it's got 210,000 on it I am going to change the timing chain with a complete cloyes kit with water pump. It is sometimes making a catching like the timing chain is catching on something. I hope that it hasn't torn something up in the timing train . I like your video because it gives me a look at some of what it take to do the job in the car.

"Good little engine" ahh no, mine was meticulously maintained and started having issues with the exhaust and intake valve sensors. Replaced and not its obvious it the timing chain. Pieces of crap. I have a strong urge to tell everyone I see driving one of these to get rid of them while they still can.

Did my timing and chain and guides at 150 Kms, but still have a death rattle at 1800 rpm especially on decel ,sounds like chain hitting cover (loosing tension) or a wrist pin kinda double knock ,any one have similar symptoms before I pull the pan and head and start popping pistons out ? Thank you,roger

So the problem doesn't exist in the 2017 models?
@buffmotorsports4460

To say a problem doesn’t exist with something that has an identical design might be a little optimistic. In the affected model years, the weak link was exacerbated by what I’m assuming is or was inferior materials.

Problem here is people using oil reset to monitor for changes. That sucker will run it up to 9,000 miles per change. Another thing is gasoline. these engine are 11-1 compression. 87 octane is not good enough. Yes the PCM will pull timing but that can only do so much.
@buffmotorsports4460
@buffmotorsports4460 Жыл бұрын
Good insight. I Don’t know how I missed this comment! Knock sensors definitely do their job… some manufacturers actually instruct you to use lower octane fuels so the knock sensors have a chance to work and they can adjust accordingly. I’ve heard quite a few times where premium ends up causing more issues than it solves because of poor timing control from the lack of detonation. Sounds Weird… but it happens. Owner/operators manuals have their place.

I'm here because of the same issue of course, but I've got something to add. Several years ago, (5?) my son had a 2005 Equinox that dead quit on the driver's side, no warning. I came across a video that said to take the panel off to get to the motor. The end of the motor is formed like a cap held on with two bolts. Take off the cap and you'll see the tip end of the motor shaft which seats into the cap. You'll probably find a lot of black carbon residue from the brushes, and you wash that out with an evaporative cleaner like carb cleaner (protect the interior!) I did this and reassembled it and for the next couple years till he sold it the window never quit again. I've looked at the Terrain motor, and even on this later body style is made pretty much the same so this should work on that too. Even if the carbon isn't the cause, it's got to bump the torque up a bit. Anything helps.

Question brutha. 2014 Terrain lous deep engine sound from 1st to 2nd and maybe third gear. i had my catalytic converter replaced. the dealer said that it wasnt the manifold. the hit 160k. what do you think.
@buffmotorsports4460
@buffmotorsports4460 Жыл бұрын
Take it to an exhaust shop. Most of the time quick fixes are $80-$100 and that’s hands down the best $100 you can spend. They can fix it better, easier, and cheaper than most of what you can do in your driveway. Exhaust manifolds almost sounds like a pppppfffffttttt/tick sound as the exhaust pulse escapes through a crack VS a “deep engine sound” which is usually from a ripped/torn flex post catalytic converter. Only other point of failure would be where the CAT bolts to the manifold that might yield a deep engine noise. Best of luck!

I appreciate the kind words! I’ve never held an official title of “master mechanic” so I never see myself as one. But, my initial career path led me to obtain at least 2 ASE certifications as I was graduating college. Those have since lapsed because I went more to the industrial diesel side. 12 years later and now I manage a fluctuating team size and probably oversee the maintenance and repair of close to 40mil in equipment. Critical part of the job is being able to guide and break down repairs into manageable tasks. This may look daunting but, there’s enough info here that with the right tools and some time and patience the repair isn’t that bad. Best of luck!

Just got mine replaced in my 2017 Terrain but should I change the oil 2k miles instead of 3k? Also if I use ECO drive setting it burns up my Camshaft sensor. Had that happen on my 2015 and my 2017 when I would drive on ECO
