I opened it to watch a video about India and halfway through the video I found irrelevant hate towards Turkey. Ok bro, that Armenian girl from California likes you now.

17:39 Not sure that Buddhism takes a strong stand on the existence or non-existence of a creator god. As far as I know that's considered to be irrelevant to alleviating suffering... but as far as I know it's not proscribed at all to pray to gods, and many Buddhists do. Buddhism does strongly reject the notion that there's any moral hierarchy to caste, people are judged on their thoughts and actions; caste, name, sex have no intrinsic moral value.

Great video!! The only creative criticism as someone who watches too many video essays is work on your audio a bit. Your mic is peaking. Maybe figure out the ideal distance from the mic for best unmuffeled quality. That aside, I've been looking for indian video essayist talking about our culture so fucking long and I am glad I found your channel! You got a subscriber and I hope to find other Indian/south Asian creators like you.

Wow that was impressive, thorough research and citing sources throughout, thank you. I see a lot of parallels between the Hindutva movement and the Zionists, they are using a similar playbook to move towards an ethno state. India's current loyalty to the Israeli genocide is mind boggling given our own colonial history and freedom struggle.

Hi. I wanted to thank you for your video on castes. It was educational, leftist and enjoyable. I was wondering if you could do a video (the longer the better) on the history of leftism in india, kerala and the communist party of india? Please add trigger warnings and don't use ableist language.

I live in kerala and am a syrian christian (lineage wise ig, I'm not a religious person) and I learned way too much stuff from watching it that I should have already known, about the history of the people of kerala. Thank you rohan, and I hope you will continue to make essays like these.

This is a fantastic video, the literature references are AMAZING! Your channel covers lots of my personal interests and it's admirable the work you put into your research, cheers to that! I have a question about a term in this video: you mention the Eezhava caste here and I noticed how the word "Eezhava" is similar to Eelam/Eezham (the native Tamil name for the island of (Sri) Lanka). Do you think there's any connection to it? As a diasporic Eezha/Lankan Tamil myself, I also notice many similarities between the Tamil culture on the island with the culture/customs/food of Kerala.
@rohanxdavis3 күн бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching! And yes there is evidence to suggest that the Ezhava have a link to sri lankan Tamils. Also, I'd say that our cuisine in Kochi is also very similar to Jaffna cuisine, perhaps even more similar than some parts of tamil nadu itself. I've visited sri lanka in the past and had the opportunity to dine at a Jaffna restaurant, I had some octopus curry and the cook was telling me about the similarities!

@@rohanxdavis this is super interesting! if you happen to find any books/ressources on the connection between the culture in Kerala and Lankan Tamils, I'd love to know that!

Tbh I don't really fully agree with parting into left and right for india because it's really complicated but other than that its honestly a shame how people don't see others as the same as them and i do wish everyone would just move forward amd grow as a person.
@rohanxdavis4 күн бұрын
@@vel5785 to be honest, that indecision and centrist thinking while capitulating to profit seeking incentives of corporations is what landed us with a modi and an rss in power. Its what kept the r#pe culture alive and keeps these public lynchings going. Every time we keep quiet when a friend or family member even passes a comment about a woman or any marginalized person without challenge or an attempt to educate, is an opportunity for harm reduction missed

I’ve always been mad at the idea of Hindutva, and how often it is supported and conflated with the idea of India. If you aren’t a supporter of Hindutva, you aren’t patriotic/you aren’t really Indian. I also really hate its mutilation of the beauty of Hinduism. I’m an Indian in America who was raised in a small sect I guess of Hinduism, but I have relatives who believe in different things, and I admire its variance. It’s an amalgamation of so so so many different beliefs that you can almost mix and match what you want and somebody follows that. So many interesting philosophical ideas. It’s all reduced to nothing under Hindutva, and I feel that’s spread to a lot of education about Hinduism as in America they taught that Hinduism has its main trio of gods, which is true for certain groups, but is very reductionary of all the other ideas within it.
