Tommy Girvin played with Smile, LA rock band in the late 70s early 80s played the club circuit at the same time as Van Halen, Quiet Riot and others. Won the all LA Battle of the Bands in 1984 and got signed with MCA/Curb Records. They released one album but without label support they didn't get the traction needed to build a career. I still listen to them every chance I get, I've got their music in my playlist. If you find interviews with bands like Motley Crue and Ratt and others from that era they will tell you that Smile where the kings of the sunset strip and everybody thought they were going to be the ones to take the world by storm. Ain't it funny how life happens?
