Lovely, but could use some fun pulls or knobs to break up that mass of black and add some fun detail.

Thank so much! I used thermoplastic molding beads instead of glue to make the mold. Easier to work with.

Will this work on very dark coloured furniture, which won't take sanding very well?

Yes, it should still work just fine on very dark colored furniture!

Instead of sanding can i use liquid sand paper? i don’t have a sander and don’t know how to use one.
@ARayofSunlight10 күн бұрын
You totally can use a liquid sandpaper, but I personally prefer sanding the good old fashioned way. You really don’t need a sander for most paint prep projects Just some simple 220 grit sanding sheets and some hand sanding is enough to scuff sand the surface for painting in most cases.

Is it possible to have negated the need for calcium carbonate for durability if you had used a paint primer instead of shellac?
@ARayofSunlight10 күн бұрын
Not really. From my experience clear shellac acts just as good as an adhesive and stain blocking primer as any other primer I have used, or even better. The calcium carbonate is what makes chalk paint, chalk paint instead of latex paint and also adds to the better adhesion properties of chalk paint.

I am preparing to redo a set of nightstands almost exactly like this. I do have a question tho. What do you do about that gap at the back of the top where the brace for the mirror once was? I saw that you put bondo in the corners down the sides of the back, but you left the top rear alone.
@ARayofSunlight10 күн бұрын
Good question! I actually left the gap at the back of the top alone and it sits against the wall in my girls’ room and you really don’t notice it. If you prefer not to have that gap then you totally could bondo that in and sand it down flush though like I did with the corners down the sides. Or you could even cut and attach new tops that would fit and cover that gap in the back. Hope that helps! Good luck on your project!

We cleaned 50 year old bathroom sink cabinet hardware. We followed your suggestions - but added a step that REALLY helped. We boiled first, then soaked in 10% vinegar for 1/2-1 hour. Then used bar keepers friend in the sink to clean. The oxidation and gunk came off much easier this way! You MUST use gloves as the vinegar is very strong.

Whats you go to paint for furniture currently
@ARayofSunlight10 күн бұрын
Honestly, my go to paint changes constantly depending on what project I am painting, what finish I want, and what the purpose of the tutorial is that I am creating. That being said, I have really been loving Heirloom Traditions all in one paint lately.

Hello, I have a new wooden table that I just want to change its color. My table doesn't need sanding either, right?
@ARayofSunlight7 күн бұрын
If the current paint job is nice and smooth and durable without chipping off, then yes, you can paint over it without sanding. But if the old finish is peeling off, has rough texture, etc, then your new finish will only be as good as the finish under it. It's usually the safest bet to sand and prime first for the very best results!
@DebraStaffordsheher18 күн бұрын
The toughest part is doing the edges - it just all sands off??
@ARayofSunlight7 күн бұрын
Yes, the edges can be very tricky. You just have to sand very, very lightly to keep it from all sanding off.

Do you need to wear a respirator if your painting the shellac on instead of spraying?
@ARayofSunlight10 күн бұрын
It’s always a good idea to wear a respirator because there will still be fumes in the air even if you are brushing or rolling the shellac on. It won’t make as many fumes as compared to spraying it, but fumes will still be there.

How long you spend in total painting? :D
@ARayofSunlight10 күн бұрын
Just the painting process is actually pretty quick, like an hour or two tops depending on what paint you use and the dry time required between coats. It’s the preparing the piece for paint that takes the longest, but even then, I have completed a full makeover from start to finish on one complete day before. Really depends on what paint you are using, other products, your piece, etc.

Hi A Ray Of Sunlight! Question: You said you use Country Chic oval paintbrush, then you use Zibra - Do you use both, or just one? Thanks.
@ARayofSunlight10 күн бұрын
Both of them are great paint brushes! I use them both quite often, but it’s only necessary to use one or the other on each project. Hope that makes sense!
