Hello, i have a question. Did you have burn test the pigmented leather? If yes then is it smelled like burned leather or like burned plastic smell?
@audenhealey2643 Жыл бұрын
Sorry I should have talked about bonded leather! What I have in the video would smell like leather if I burned it but when I was first buying leather I did get bonded leather and it was plastic smelling. I don't usually burn test, but I did for that bonded leather because I knew something was wrong with it. Since I made this video I found tanner.leatherstein on instagram and he has so much information about leather that I wish had been available to me earlier. I think he also has a KZbin.

That 1/8" seam allowance is pretty tight. Did you run it on that little cylinder arm machine in the background?
@audenhealey2643 Жыл бұрын
No, but I could/would! I do use that machine. I have a narrow foot on my flat bed machine that I bought from my sewing machine dealer. I leave it on all the time, so I never have to change sewing machine feet for zippers or straps, etc. you can also put down a magnet on the throat plate to act as a seam guide or just use a slightly larger seam allowance. I don't think the sides of the strap would lift too much with the larger seam allowance if you needed it. Better than losing the strap!

You’re going to need a backed ruler utility knife Stanley knife aka box cutter craft knife contact adhiesive/ cement, bonded nylon and uv is what I use yeah keep your scissors seperate I got a leather pair I need to make a sheath for and also get a lighter and a few hand needles and a stitching pony mallet and punches you’ll get there. Keep it up

Thanks for watching! I work with 2 ounce upholstery leather making handbags on a sewing machine. I would add those items you mentioned for hand-sewing vegetable tanned leather, but not for the type of work I'm doing. I do occassionally use a lighter on my threads.

Thank you for this! It answers my questions about how the Rex and Mora are different. Have you had a chance to sew with either yet? (I have a Heavy Duty Singer domestic.)
@audenhealey26432 жыл бұрын
Yes! I made a bag with Mora. It's the easiest vinyl to work with that I've ever used and turning the bag was so easy. I did it on my industrial, but I've done lots of vinyl and cork bags on my Janome HD3000 domestic and it does great. I think Mora will do really well on your domestic. I use microtex size 16 needles.

Is it true that Louis Vuitton bags uses cotton canvas treated with PVC?
@audenhealey26432 жыл бұрын
I'm not an LV expert, but many of the monogram and damier bags are coated canvas with vachetta leather trim and accents. I haven't been able to find a canvas that is similar in feel yet (I would like to work with some on a bag), but cork is a nice substitute.

You're welcome! I'm glad it was helpful. Nicole of Dig the Bag has been using PU backed canvas so I really wanted to try it. Interfaced quilting cotton isn't quite what I'm looking for in a liner, but sometimes PVC canvas is too heavy...hopefully PU canvas is the answer! Thanks for watching!

With upholstery, vinyl and leather; I use an office stapler to hold seams together for sewing.
@audenhealey26433 жыл бұрын
Yes! This is a great idea because the staples are in the seam allowance. Do you take them out after you sew or leave them in?
@kathyjohnson5593 жыл бұрын
@@audenhealey2643 I take them out. They could rust if you leave them in. Its quick, and you don't have all those bent sewing pins.
