Crappy fruit and vegetables - don’t be fooled by appearances. Things were much better 20 years ago before the mainlanders arrived en masse, as well as all the others. The real problem is lack of infrastructure, unmitigated immigration - too many cars leading to gridlocked roads - out of control construction, selling property and lands that belong to others. It’s a corrupt place under erdogans administration - filled with black money and crime by the undesirables from Turkey. The only industry is construction construction construction….the island of cement!

Having lived in North Cyprus for two years as an American, I can say it was a challenging experience, and not always in a good way. There are some serious issues that really affect daily life, and I wish someone had given me a clear picture before I made the move. I’ll be sharing the pros and cons in more detail in an upcoming KZbin video, but here’s a quick summary. One of the biggest frustrations is the lack of consistent access to essentials: water, electricity, and reliable internet. Outages are frequent, and the quality is a far cry from what you’d expect in the U.S. Dealing with immigration is another story entirely-think of it as a comedy of errors where nothing goes as planned. If I had enough patience, I could write an entire (humorous) book on those adventures alone. Real estate is another eye-opener. When you buy something, it’s more like a time-share than real ownership because reselling is nearly impossible, so it’s yours for as long as you’re there, but with limited flexibility. And if you love to shop or unwind at a mall, you’ll be disappointed. Rules and regulations feel almost non-existent or change without notice, making you truly appreciate the stability and order back in the States. North Cyprus does have some beauty and charm, but overall, if you’re considering moving here, make sure you’re prepared for these challenges. It’s not for everyone, and you might find yourself feeling disappointed.

Do NOT ''invest'' in the ''northern'' area of Cyprus, as that area of Cyprus is under illegal Turkish occupation contrary to numerous UN Resolutions since Turkey's invasion of the Republic of Cyprus in 1974. It is not internationally recognised (other than Turkey the invader who controll the shots in the north), and there is an international embargo since 1974 on the northern occupied area of Cyprus. Any so called investment in that area of Cyprus is under the investor's risk, as the genuine legal land title deeds would be in question, since the lawful owners were displaced following the invasion and occupation. You will find that reputable real estate companies that invest in Cyprus, do not invest or promote the northern Turkish occupied area of Cyprus for obvious reasons. So called companies that do, are dodgy companies.
