Full tutorial for how to court a rival pack’s leader: Step one: Find the leader that’s the same sex as you. (If you don’t care about keeping your created wolf’s sex the same, you could kill the first leader you encounter and then change your sex accordingly so you can court the remaining leader.) This can be done by entering the pack’s territory and howling before sleeping. You’ll probably be awoken by wolves of the rival pack, but the leader may or may not be there. If not there, run out of the territory, and then run back in to howl+sleep again. Step two: Kill the leader. If there, target the leader and only bite them. Go for front neck bites if you can since those seem to do the most damage, and if you get bitten just spam A+D. You have to start spamming ASAP once the wolf gets on you, otherwise you won’t be able to shake them off without taking damage. Step three: Wait out the grieving stage. I’ve heard it takes 2-3 in-game days, and when I took over a pack this step didn’t take TOO long. Basically, sleep in the pack’s territory every other sleep. Before you go to sleep in their territory, howl to attract them. If they appear and are aggressive or want to court but it’s only subordinates/yearlings, leave the territory and sleep outside. Then, go back in their territory, howl, and go to sleep. If they don’t appear, howl until they howl back on the map. If they have no heart, go to sleep outside their territory. If they do have a heart, run towards the howling, and if it’s only subordinates/yearlings, leave the territory and sleep outside. Then, go back in their territory, howl, and go to sleep. If they howl and have a heart AND the leader is courtable when you find them, this step is over. If they wake you up and the leader is courtable, this step is over. Just repeat this process of “howl, sleep in territory, no courtables howl/no courtables encounter? leave territory and sleep outside. go back inside the territory, howl, sleep, if courtable howls but not the leader, leave the territory and sleep outside.” Step four: To court a rival wolf pack’s leader is scary to be honest. The entire pack growls and stares at you while you’re just trying to talk to the leader who has 0 affection for you. I had to try twice at this step, and in both times the leader had no bonus love once we had met. To start, do rolls, avert your eyes, and do play bows, but don’t do give the submissive tail wag. I’m not sure why, but on my second attempt, I had to keep reloading my save because the pack kept turning against me, and I eventually found out it was because of the submissive tail wag. Despite being “submissive” don’t use it I guess. If you fail at courting the pack leader fully, you will not be able to court that pack leader again until they get a new mate and the cycle repeats. Make a save at a point during courting when they haven’t turned on you yet. With enough submissive emotes, the pack will somewhat trust you and you’ll be able to court the leader. The hardest part of courting is over, and now court the leader as you would any other wolf. If it goes south, load your save. If it doesn’t, congrats! You’re a pack leader.
