Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for this gem! How joyful it made me feel… I am currently reading Fahrenheit 451 and wanted to find out more about Ray Bradbury… this video interview was perfect.

Holy smokes! He looks just like the actor Harve Presnell. Just watch the movie “Fargo.” It’s like how Will Farrell looks like the drummer in the Red Hot Chili Peppers but better. Also cursive is worthless. I refused to learn it in third and fourth grade.

I'm hoping someone (ANYONE lol) can confirm this for me...had this poster as a kid...clearly Moses and Charles are the frontliners here...then Buck, Sidney and Alvin Robertson...but they are playing 3 on 3 in the commercial and the final man is never really focused upon...I'm almost positive its Purvis Short who would have been on the Warriors at the time of this video session but I cannot say for sure....so if anyone can confirm or if I am wrong and it's not Purvis Short please let me know who it is....thanks.

I read The Shawl in the New Yorker. Setting aside how much I cried, I learned a lesson in compassion for others in real danger that is unequaled. One of the best, if most painful, stories ever written

I think they got rid of it because of psyclone wooden roller coaster. Anyways if you look closely where psyclone used to be you can still see the cement support foundation for shockwave.

Nice video. I'm one of the rare few people who actually ALMOST got on Shockwave at Magic Mountain back in 1988. At the time I was only 6 years old and I was a thrill seeker. I used to see this exact TV advert on local L.A. television and my brothers would point and run to the TV whenever it came on! My older brother and sister were able to get on the ride when we went to SFMM and I distinctly remember the black color of the steel tracks and how intimidating and looming the ride sounded, it also produced a lot of wind as it would pass by while passengers waited in the queue. Once we got to the front of the line, I remember I was told by a ride operator that I was "too short" to ride and didn't meet the height requirements, so I had to wait at the exit gates of this ride till my older siblings returned from their ride. It broke my heart back then because the ride soon closed after that. It was during one of the rare times it was actually open and operating. At least I can say I actually stood in line for it and saw the ride upclose. As a 6 year old, it was a very ADULT/big person ride, it felt intimidating and it was not for the faint of heart. This, Colossus, Knott's Corkscrew and Disneyland's Splash Mountain are my favorite rides ever conceived. I loved the way they all looked and the concepts -- none of these rides are in operation anymore. Strangely enough SFMM was STILL selling a VHS tape called "Six Flags Magic Mountain: The Ultimate Adventure" with the Shock Wave segment still on it years after it closed in the SFMM gift shop towards the entrance of the park which my family bought! Watching that segment was my only way to experience the ride after that! I still think about it. Shock Wave was the only one of the 4 that I didn't have the pleasure to ride, but I've always admired its design and its cars, and its innovation at the time.

My mom made me ride this at 9yrs old... it was terrifying but started me on my thrill ride conquest! I'm 46, have a magic mountain membership for the family. My 10yr old who just popped his thrill ride cherry today, asked me what made me start liking these rides so much? I showed him this commercial and told him this ride and his grandma MAKING me get on did it. Life's short enjoy people 🍻😎

This commercial is very familiar, but not for Shockwave, but for Iron Wolf in Six Flags: Great America in Illinois. It's been at least 30+ years since I last seen it, but I swear this commercial's footage and music is exactly the same. Can't blame Magic Mountain for using it as it was (and still is) an awesome commercial. I'm just surprised I would see it under a different name. Another fun fact, Shockwave was another coaster in Great America, a quite epic, very tall, loopy, and fast (but regrettably short lived) one too.

The music in the background was a jam. When I was in Junior High, we used to crack on each other: "You used Sure when you were unsure!" "You used Right Guard on the left side!" "You used Secret, but you told!"
