Question about soap. The authoritative source for tahara/rechitzas hameis is the mishna in Shabbos 151a. It says there that we do sicha on the meis. We say l'halacha that nowadays that soap is used for sicha. So why shouldn't we use soap? Also the Beis Yosef YD 352:6 says that we do tahara for the sake of odor. If our concern is for the niftar to be smelling good for the sake of kavod hameis, why shouldn't we use soap?

Have the shiurim on Ayin Beis stopped?

Thank you for posting this. I appreciate your in depth knowledge of the subject. This question has some importance to me. My maternal great grandmother was Jewish. However she died many years before I was born and she was the last of my ancestors to practice Judaism. I grew up in a secular non religious home and have not real contact with the Jewish community. From what I can father from your argument if there is a Jewish mother (practicing) and no father then yes the child is a Jew. If however there is a father and he is not Jewish or practicing then the child follows the father. Thus despite having a direct material line back to a Jewish mother 3 generations back I would not be considered a Jew. Am I correct in my understanding?

Regarding hearing being greater than seeing. See Sefer Hasichos Mem Ches 1, page 312, note 54. Would need more explanation to clarify what exactly is the advantage of each one respectively.
