This gives me the fucking creeps. Its ridiculously self-absorbed. I guess this only works for the ladies.

you're living in the first person. if you're not there for yourself first, you're going to put unnecessary stress onto others if you dont have self-compassion, you actually start living in a way that disregards others and doesnt understand that they also are practicing self-compassion - aka narcissism.

Kristin, I'm a 69-year-old woman who always feared that I would only indulge myself more in unhealthy choices if I wasn't attacking myself vociferously (like my parents did)! I found your TED talk right before your channel & I'm finally willing to try what you recommend! I can't thank you enough for generous sharing of this counterintuitive message & for presenting the physiological hormonal responses to scornful self-talk & compassionate self-talk! After this message I finally feel safer to try this than all the years of therapists cajoling me to try it! I'll pass around the love (your talks) to those I know! Thank you again!🎉

Dear Kristin, I discovered your work on self-compassion quite recently when I realised how harshly I behaved to myself. I also watched a conversation between you and Dr. Chatterjee and I learn a lot about to be kind to myself. I'd like to thank you for your accumulated knowledge that allowed me to give myself the permission to be supportive and compassionate not only to others but also to my very self. Thank you. God bless you.

Dear Kristen, your book, Selfcompassion, really is my holy grail🥹✨🙏🏻 I grew up with my mother who criticized me a lot, like all the time. I never did something well enough, and her love was conditional really… I just found this out after therapy…. So I had to ‘reset’ the way I see myself, the way I talk to myself, my inner voice and conversations, the pain of not feeling enough, not feeling understood and recognized. Really, your book has helped me so so much, I am finally able to give myself love and compassion, and to be my own mother actually, to give myself the motherly love I wanted and to be the best mother I can be to my own child. You made such a big impact and change in my life. T h a n k Y o u🙏🏻✨🙏🏻✨🙏🏻✨

My rational, critical, and individualistic side responds with "Humbug", but my wise, socially-connected and masculinity emotional side understands the great value of this practice - thank you for encouraging me/us to cultivate the latter.
