Love this film to bits. Very iconic, comedic, memorable but with a deep rooted message in it. That is why people everywhere still talk about it. Take a bow to the director, script writer, producer and the entire cast and crew! :-D

In the same way I can't imagine Guy Pearce with his actual Aussie accent, I can't imagine Keira Knightley without her real accent. She does a good job here though.

I'm from America myself and her accent was pretty terrible. ngl. She made the mistake of holding her breath in her throat while still attempting to have that 'breathy sexy' sound to it. Didn't work.

Its convincing enough, not the best! Its not as natural as when Gary Oldman or Tracey Ullman when they do an American accent, although in all fairness they've lived in the States for quite a bit. But Knightley's American accent is definitely a lot more Convincing and realistic to Colin Firth's interpretation in Main Street or than Orlando Bloom's in Elizabethtown. Not that I think Colin Firth or Orlando Bloom are bad actors, on the contrary! and Colin Firth is one of my favorite actors, A legend! but just not that good for doing in American accent.

Listen closely, and you can hear her natural accent slip when she says "Barbeck". 0:49 I think her American accent was cute. Sure it wasn't perfect but it was a great effort nonetheless

End this "ew" "her english accent is wayyy better" this American accent on her is fucking SEXY AS HELL (although I still love her natural accent) God!!! I'm in love. And she did a good job. I think it's a bit harsh to persuade an actor to really 100% do a perfect American accent....that's extremely difficult. They should just really do their best which is what keira did and I'm LOVIN the results

I think it's a case of what people are used to. I'm a Brit and I find American accents far sexier than British accents. Although both sides of the Atlantic have some pretty horrific ones, imagine trying to sound sexy with a Brummy accent, or a real Southern American drawl.

I still hear her English. It's weird; something's off. I mean, still a wonderful actress-- no question. But I'm still hearing this overarching English cadence in the way she inflects.

Her cadence struggles are more apparent in her 2014 film Laggies. What stands out more to me is that more often than not, she would deeply inhale before speaking, as if she was vocally preparing her self before speaking. Which made scenes seem more rehearsed and less natural.

am i the only one who thinks that keira knightley is a bad actress. in this snippet her american accent is ok, but i saw the rest of the film and her american accent isn't that good; she sounds like a man and it doesn't sound natural.

I was watching Shadow Recruit and she sounds strange, its like the accent she is portraying does not in the least match her face. Its like Charlton Heston doing a scooby doo voice

***** Your entire construct of an attempt at a sentence is baffling. Im also an American so that doesnt score you any points there. So by your mindset all troubled life people talk the same?!? what..?. Which by comparison is like saying someone that gets out of a car in a handicapped spot with an official license plate / rear vew mirror card (depending on your state) that doesnt look handicapped must not be handicapped right? hope you get the analogy. I have worked with the less fortunate and myself had a very hard upbringing but survived and moved past it. Your entire comment is null in void. People with hard lives do not all sound the same. knightley's accent is crap you only made it more justifiably so. The reason being people that have never seen Knightly on the screen hearing her fake accent can tell its fake and point it out when watching. Its not the difficult to tell, she sounds unnatural.

Probably because the British are better trained in doing American accents then the other way around. There are a lot of roles for American characters, so I can see why. Either that or because the American accent is lower than British, which is easier to imitate.

The major difference between American and British accents are that Americans love to emphasize the R's while Brits love to emphasize the T's. She does a pretty good job, but you can tell she struggled while pronouncing "doctor" where the T and R are both pronounced differently in both accents.
