I seem to recall being told that I Am the Bread of Life was composed for the funeral of a priest of the San Francisco Archdiocese at St. Anne of the Sunset Church very near to my childhood home. Perhaps Sr. Suzanne could confirm the accuracy of that information. I first heard it performed at an ordination mass in St. Mary’s Cathedral in SF in 1971 or 1972.

“I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE”….MY FAVORITE SONG….YES, IT WILL BE SUNG AT MY FUNERAL🙏THANK YOU, SISTER!👏💕. YOU ARE A BLESSING🙏💕🙏. My primary students (K-3) would sing the first two verses of this song as the “Entrance Song” for Mass, and the last two verses as the “Recessional” for Mass. My Principal said I had 230 Charismatics! Praise Jesus!🙏💕

Good job, Sister. I love that song. But you do look cuter in the veil if you don't mind my saying so.

So glad she was my teacher in Mercy Chorale for 4 years of high school. She had a way of just wiggling her pinky, and we knew how to sing. My favorite was a song I can't find anywhere we sang in the Stanford chapel with some seminarians in the balconies. It was verses of a hymn mixed with a beautiful song she wrote. Blessed be the God and Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ (her song). Then Come Thou Holy Paraclete (the hymn). The acoustics made it the most beautiful thing I've ever heard in my 70+ years of life. So sad it has disappeared. Maybe Claire Giovanetti has a recording of it? Her sister Ann was in my class.

Senora Castillo was my Spanish teacher 1977-1981. My fondest memory was her taking us to local Mexican restaurant for a "field trip" with the requirement that we could ONLY speak Spanish throughout our entire meal experience. Immersing us, even in this small way, brought my education full circle. This, and so many other memories of Mercy Burlingame, stay with me today. Thank you Senora Castillo, and the rest of the faculty, for providing a solid foundation in my life! Carmel Kinsella Brown, Class of 81.

We love you Ms. Horan! I don’t know a single mercy girl who wasn’t touched by your care and compassion for your students. I’m so thankful for all you have done for me!
