the hardest thing of improvising is finding things that sounds good. i mean, also knowing all pentatonic shape and how to use them togheter, you still cant just play a scale up and down. and what i play usually get boring in few seconds

Try to follow the chord changes, highlight the root notes, add the blue note... That will bring a lot of sparks to your licks.

I cant get the major 7 to work very well here. E dorian works better. Is there something im missing?
@backingtrackscenter7 күн бұрын
Hey brother! The major seventh doesn’t fit well in these rock and blues harmonies because they always use chords with a minor seventh. Even when the chord doesn’t have a seventh, it’s implied that if it did, it would be a minor seventh. Try using the Mixolydian mode, as it will fit better, or the classic mix of major and minor pentatonics.

Most confusing thing about improv is knowing what to play. Like why can I play minor in a major key? I gotta stop noodling and learn music theory
@quonk1019 күн бұрын
Yeah man blues theory is actually surprisingly complicated for what it is, but short answer is that the blues and rock are inherently dark sounding genres. This is a blues rock kind of vibe, so even though the chords are major, it’s actually the best stylistic fit to play in a dark key, which is a minor key. Theres a whole theory rabbit hole as to why the minor key works better that you may find interest in, but at the end of the day the minor key is a safe bet for improvising. If you want to explore, you can branch off into more intricate territory like sprinkling in major, dorian, and chord tones that the guitar greats utilize once you’re comfortable with the minor key.

Got it! Here’s a song inspired by your connection to Waitahanui: “Waitahanui, My Home” [Verse 1] Born and raised where the rivers flow, In Waitahanui, where my heart will go. We’re all family, that’s the way it’s been, From the village paths to the bushy green. [Pre-Chorus] The laughter echoes, the memories stay, In every sunrise and each new day. [Chorus] This is my home, where the waters shine, Waitahanui, forever mine. Swimming the streams, roaming the trees, Life feels so free in this village breeze. No matter how far, no matter where I roam, Waitahanui is my home. [Verse 2] Cousins laughing as we dive right in, The cool, clear waters like a lifelong friend. Up the bush we roam, no need for a map, Every step we take feels like a lap. [Pre-Chorus] The place we’ve shared, the love we’ve known, This is the soil that’s shaped my soul. [Chorus] This is my home, where the waters shine, Waitahanui, forever mine. Swimming the streams, roaming the trees, Life feels so free in this village breeze. No matter how far, no matter where I roam, Waitahanui is my home. [Bridge] Through every season, through time and tide, Waitahanui’s love will always guide. The hills, the rivers, the skies so blue, They’re all a part of me, and I’m part of you. [Chorus] This is my home, where the waters shine, Waitahanui, forever mine. Swimming the streams, roaming the trees, Life feels so free in this village breeze. No matter how far, no matter where I roam, Waitahanui is my home. [Outro] So here’s to the place where my story starts, Waitahanui’s forever in my heart. Through the rivers and hills, no matter where I go, Waitahanui will always be my home. Does this capture what you had in mind? Let me know if you want to refine it further!

Amusing music solution. Ballad visible obviously. Blues dissolved though left the mood. The main impression: deep (though light!) psychedelic rock. I imagine the following: this piece may be converted into real hard extremal (though melodic) rock by inserting roaring guitar and thunderlike drum.
