Nice! First year of the 3rd gens. Was it from a family member? That's a trend I'm seeing in the comments. People driving these today got these from family members that bought them years ago. The 4Runners are too good to just trade in, so they get passed down to family members to enjoy.

What brand is the OBD2 Bluetooth?
@AdventuresWithSmitty8 күн бұрын
It is “Panlong.” I have it linked in the video description. The app is Torque Pro for Android.

3rd gens are amazing for so many reasons. I love mine. They are easy to work on and last forever. Thanks for showing that OBD/app. Gonna look into that. For my storage box, i cut the factory carpet out of the cargo area, exposing the metal, basically truck bed. I then used the carpet i cut out and set it on top of the box. Its tough, easy to clean, and matches the interior of the truck.
@AdventuresWithSmitty10 күн бұрын
Thanks man, I appreciate it. There’s something special about 3rd gens. I gotta admit, that’s a genius move with the cutting out and using the carpet. I never thought about that!
@txrunroutdoors10 күн бұрын
@AdventuresWithSmitty I was inspired by my shrimp bucket spilling water during a fishing trip!! The only way I felt I could clean the carpet was to cut it out. So I cut it out, cleaned it, stored the clean carpet in the garage, built the drawers later on, and then it dawned on me that the carpet I hoarded would fit perfectly on the box. So, moral of the story, sometimes the random things we hoard in the garage DO find a use.

I drive a lot of vehicles, but getting in my 98' SR5 just makes me happy. You don't realize how small and maneuverable these are comparative to new trucks and suvs. Granted, there are not many suvs from this era on the road. I've had mine since 04' and it will definitely outlive me and I'm only 46. Great video-subscribed.

I’d try a marine grade/outdoor carpet on the box. Maybe hit it with a waterproofing coat first, then epoxy it on. Inset d-ring tie downs are nice to have on the box too. But, if you put firewood back there, it’s a pain to vacuum.

That’s an awesome idea! That makes a lot of sense. That would definitely be more durable. Good call on the tie downs. It’s slick right now and things LOVE to slide around. Haha.

A) Bought mine for $4k in 2020. Put another $10K on maintenance and mods. Love it. Had 233K miles with original timing belt & water pump (mom & daughter owners). ~Mechanic took pics of the belt, said he had never seen one looking that ratty. B) Somebody at work recently asked me what my dream car is... "It's in the parking lot" I replied. It's taken me farther into the Rocky mountains than I even wanted to go, (see my channel, 2024 Colorado playlist). C) I make enough that I could afford a fifth gen. But no, they're not as cool. Mine is "vintage" next year. D) Here in Texas, aka flat ground, 4WD's are quite rare, as the trophy wives don't need 4WD. Wouldn't know how to shift it into gear. E) Nassau plates? WTF? Can I come visit you? Show me around? Show me how to spear fish?!
@AdventuresWithSmitty10 күн бұрын
Right on man. Haha. I’ll definitely check out the content. My wife and I have a goal to visit all 50 states by the time we’re 40. We have 18 states left to hit in the next 7 years and Colorado is one of them! I know what you mean. 5th gens are so common. There is something neat about these 3rd gens. I’ve got 3 more years before this one is an “Antique Vehicle.” 😂 And I sadly don’t live in the Bahamas. Haha. It’s from a cruise. Our ship stopped for the day and I found it in a sketchy street market. Funny enough, the wreck mangled up the license plate. I still have it but it’s pretty warped. We went on another cruise last summer and I found ANOTHER license plate in Nassau. I joked with my family that we only went back so I could get a replacement license plate. Tennessee doesn’t require a front plate so I haven’t had any issues running it.
@davide.anderson850710 күн бұрын

@AdventuresWithSmitty29 күн бұрын
It is firm. The lift I went with is the most common I think, but can have a stiff ride (the front especially). However I don’t regret it. It feels better than the worn out stock suspension. There are other lifts with a soft/more forgiving ride but are higher in price.

I’ll see if I can find a link! I ordered mine from Wheeler’s Offroad. They sell the front coils assembled which was nice. I went with Old Man Emu (OME) 883 front coils and 891 rear coils. These are a heavier spring rate to accommodate for the heavy front bumper, rear storage, and possibly rear bumper in the future. I paired them with the Bilstein 5100 shocks.

Define reliable? Because hand first experience says otherwise. I haven't gotten a Toyota for more than 10 years, people who orgasm over a car or truck always try to convince people their Toyota is a gift from God. However the horrible unreliability of the transmissions, frames, and engines makes these vehicles undesirable. Not the mention the weird looking design. I don't know about newer Toyotas but it left a bad taste in my mouth after previous ownerships. Don't even get me started on the Landcruisers, those are even worse.
