This would have been a great piston engine design for aircraft in the 1900s, combining the compactness of inline layout with the power of radial layout

Too complicated, too many friction parts, and expensive to manufacture. They only matched the performance of conventional gas engines. .

Absence of pre-ignition with high compression ratios is what is expected if there are no hot-spots eg exhaust valves - but also indicative of non-optimal combustion chamber shape ie too much surface area for a given volume, causing excessive amounts of combustion heat lost to coolant instead of being converted to mechanical power.

its been 10+ years, any update video for us? I've been watching this since I was a kid and now I'm a fully grown adult. Hope to see traditional piston engines being destroyed in market by these innovative piston engines and of course the legendary rotary engines.

How the piston turn inside the engine because inside the engine, the best, then go up down and right to the left ??

Really cool idea. I like it. But if you want a rotating engine... make a turbine and then engineer it to work efficiently over wider RPM ranges. Easier said than done, but so was this. If you want something to move in a circle, start with a circle not a piston?

This is actually quite old technology, a guy from Croydon in Melbourne by the name of barry cureton and his brother George cureton designed and built a wobble plate engine with variable displacement a 5 cylinder very similar to this one And they put the motor into a vl comadore and drove it around for quite some time so approximately 20 plus yrs ago .

Conceived by Duke? Perhaps to found this company and improve on basic design principles over a century old, but really moreso improving for commercial use. Are there any customers yet? The graphics look interesting, but I have trouble getting past the transfer of power aspect and how that it’s much more efficient than conventional reciprocating engines.

It's just a radial engine with a HUGE COUNTER WEIGHT on shaft smh this is so stupid I can't explain actually invent not reinvent like interstellar "there's too many engineers" maybe engineers should worry about reliability I mean Maza did create rotor engine they just made it better smh

@danohanlon83162 жыл бұрын
In the same way that a helicopter without a tail rotor would spin wildly out of control on its drive shaft, in one direction of spin, wouldn’t the balance of forces in a Duke engine cause the entire engine-hence, also the vehicle-to want to rotate?

I think there is a vibration problem with this design...
@keithhults89862 жыл бұрын
I agree. The axis rotating a wobble has to throw off a shake or vibration. Unless a counterbalance is I corporated into the gyrations. That would solve vibration. My twin cam B Harley would potato and shake without the counterbalance built in, like the twin cam A engine does. Because it is a rebalanced engine, it does not idle potato potato It rhythmically beats like war drums. I don't see this engine being capable of a 10k rpm spin without counterbalancing.
@kevinerbs27782 жыл бұрын
@@keithhults8986 this engine is simlar to a barrel or swashplate engine. they do not wobble as the disc is completely round it's just tilted at an angle to give lateral movement. This engine wil always burn oil, just like the rotary engine. The port desgin is why these engines burn oil.
