Always a delight. I went out with a Greek woman who died far too young. She treated me with barely concealed toleration which I have always found is the mark of a decent woman and a long relationship. For God's sake man we play with toy soldiers, we need tollerant women. Otherwise we are pretty much screwed.

Oh Impetus! Great historical rules system. There is a related-rules for XV-XVII century: Baroque. Same author and same concept. Impetus 2 and Basic Impetus work very well for historical engagement and are visually very appealing.

Hi Walter thank you for watching my friend! For sure Lorenzo's IMPETVS was a groundbreaking ruleset when it was released and change totally the landscape and the philosophy in wargaming rules. I think after IMPETVS many rules copied their philosophy.

I’m taking the plunge into HYW and of course your old videos are an inspiration! I’ve ordered a few Perry boxes but I’m curious, where did you get your flags from and how do you distribute them amongst units? There doesn’t seem to be a strict order. Appreciate you!
@MedievalWargamer11 күн бұрын
One of my first videos! hahaha long long time ago. Glad to read you are venturing to the HYW! If you need any help please le me know. These Banners i cant remember where i got them from it was long time ago since then i have been mostly printing my own banners from images on the web scaling them using PowerPoint. Banners during the HYW should be placed only with the Nobles and their retinues (Men at arms -Knights etc.) other troops like Longbowmen never had banners because the Longbowmen where deployed in mass in the flanks of the army and served many different Knights and captains. The location of the banners also denoted to the enemy where the Higher Ranking Nobles deployed and thus where was the money ...;) That is why at Agincourt for example the French Knights ignored the low ranking Longbowmen funneled towards the Rich men at arms in the center based on their banners and then got annihilated by the flanking attack of the Archers.. Thank you for watching and commenting my friend!

Hmm swastikas on the shield at 3:03 guess it truly was a universal symbol with good meaning rather then what America portrayed it to and had the natives Indians sign an agreement not to use the symbol no more and was officially banned in 1939 if I'm not mistaken I would like to look into it more on this universal symbol of our past history even in ancient times

@MrCABman197217 күн бұрын
I think you misinterpret how Tough Fighters and Marksmen work, they essentially give you an extra die as you get to Re-roll a SINGLE failed attack which is a failed dice roll. You don't re-roll ALL the dice in the attack pool. I really don't think Longbowmen should get 4 dice that is WAY too powerful even three regular dice are quite powerful most of the time. Without Marksmen an archer unit will do 2-3 would on any shielded infantry on the approach and at least one break test result... that is not unrealistic and quite strong, throw in Marksmen and they become almost 30% more effective that is pure math. Throwing a bunch of dice proves very little as that is just random results while math does show real effect.. ;)
@MedievalWargamer16 күн бұрын
Thank you my friend maybe you have a point there. I always forget that you reroll only one die you are correct.;) In my opinion Longbowmen should be Marksmen in order to Reroll one of their failed dice as you correctly mention otherwise i still believe that in HC they are weak only with 3 dice as they created havoc on the battlefield. Thank you for watching and commenting my friend!

You made very good points there! Solo gaming can be very enjoyable and it can have more room for creativity than a regular game with an opponent. The worst thing for me about solo gaming is that I am the one who has to remember all the rules and with my memory... the games become approximations of the thing I am trying to play.

Your channel is an inspiration to anyone who wants to try solo gaming ... I have regular opponents but always feel that the narrative you can build when playing a solo game is better in many ways , also I nearly always paint up armies for both sides so it's a shame not to use all my figures ! 😊 Over the last year I have played more and more solo games and really enjoyed them , and as You rightly say card driven games are excellent for this and again provide that important narrative .. You can do different types of scenarios and add house rules which sometimes an opponent will not be happy about playing I would say to anyone try solo gaming there is a lot of fun to be had 😊 Cheers Nick ...
@MedievalWargamer16 күн бұрын
Thank you Dear Ray glad you are enjoying the channel content! For sure Solo gaming has its benefits and by shooting videos like that we help each other pick up ides that might improve our own games. Yes I believe too that card driven games help a lot as one does not really need to innovate anything in the rule set as cards already provide unpredictability by themselves. Thank you for watching and commenting my friend!

Great video, as always! Nice to see someone actually giving practical advice on how to make solo games more interesting. Usually it's just "Play both sides" and "Make some stories on the table" or something like that. Also, William Silvester's book is amazing, it has really affected my solo wargaming experience. One of the mechanics in his book that I use in is giving leaders competency ratings. 1 being basically a fool, and 6 being a great tactician. I've added some similar traits, like bravery and greed. During a battle I assign leaders to some units, and their actions are determined by rolling a dice and comparing it to the leaders traits. For example a brave leader will charge his troops into more veteran enemy more easily, and a cowardly one might even flee when give an charge order. A competent leader can make some actions for free if he rolls well, and greedy officer will usually rush to enemy's baggage train if there is no enemies standing between them, leaving the rest in trouble.

Thank you my friend glad you enjoyed the video my friend!! I believe us solo gamers are more than we think and it is good to help each other with practical ideas that can improve our games! I totally agree with you the book is amazing and has some great and very innovative mechanics for solo battles and campaigns. Leader traits is always a good Start for a Solo battle! Thank you for watching my friend!
