I love the idea of CSX having to do this job still. I wonder why they haven't abandoned it.
@BeginCTC3 күн бұрын
@tHazza2745 Well, the 2 customers on the line would have to not want carloads by rail anymore and I don't see that happening. Also, CSX doesn't own the branch, so all they could really do is stop servicing it. The branch is owned by the City of Auburn Port Authority

I'm sure you didn't have to race in to Antwerp as the west bound train was speeding along at maybe 5mph?

It's a figure of speech more or less. Although any time you're chasing a train with your kids, and you're trying to corral them back into the van and buckle everyone in, it does eat up some time.

Great footage! Do you guys in the U. S. need special permits for drone flights like that? Here in Germany you wouldn't be allowed to fly even close to tracks (or streets, or industries, etc.).
@BeginCTCАй бұрын
@SpringfieldAndWestern Thank you! So, at least for now, this can all be done without any permits and is completely legal. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) does not restrict drones over railroads. Now they do have a rule about not flying over people or vehicles, which is why I play it safe and keep a good distance away from the locomotive. I do fear rules changing in the coming years though, as I've seen many reckless and careless drone operators on social media. Most recently, someone even crash landed their drone on the UP 4014 steam excursion train. So long story short, this is all completely allowed and doesn't even require any special permits or permission... yet 😅
@SpringfieldAndWesternАй бұрын
@@BeginCTC thanks for the quick reply! That's cool that it's that easy in the USA. A few years ago I wanted to get a drone myself but I never bought a serious one because why should I when I am basically not allowed to operate it anywhere it would be cool? 😅
@BeginCTCАй бұрын
@SpringfieldAndWestern I hear that sentiment quite a bit from some drone Facebook groups. I intend to enjoy every second of it here until the troublemakers ruin it for everyone and rules have to be tightened up. We only just recently had the concern of losing access to all DJI drones so you never know what changes are coming.

Enough for their crews to feel comfortable enough raise their running speed from 3mph to 5mph. This also has intermittently allowed the throttle of these locomotives to sometimes be pulled out to run 2.

Thanks man, me too lol. We tried to meet them in Monroeville and chase them to FW but they snuck up on us in Maples. Played catch up just barely in time to get this shot all the way back in town. They were moving today!
@NWORails5 ай бұрын
The fastest I've seen them move was through the countryside near Delphos, going about 25-30 MPH. I'm still trying to catch one of the sand trains but it's always too late by the time I hear of one coming through and it's typically on a school day. I'd also like to catch another CSX grain on the line, I only ever got one. Happy early Easter by the way!! Do you know why they stopped doing autorack trains? Or was that when NS still had trackage rights, I remember seeing one getting unloaded at their N Cole Street Lima yard.
@BeginCTC5 ай бұрын
@NWORails Maples detector clocked them at 32mph today which was impressive considering the size of their train. As far as operations go, I'm not very well versed on the CFE despite living in Fort Wayne for nearly a decade now. I used to railfan them more back when NS still ran through freight across the line, but around the time NS stopped I got my start with the RR and took a years long break for being a buff. The guys in the CFE FB group are a wealth of knowledge though. I'm sure one of them has the info
@NWORails5 ай бұрын
@@BeginCTC I wish that NS still had trackage rights, it'd give more of a reason to go out there. I personally never saw any, I wasn't around when they still were operating. I started watching trains in the area when I was 16 I believe, by then, they were gone. I would also love to catch the W&LE more often. I wish I had someone to give me heads up about all of the sand trains, grain trains, and the W&LE trains that are coming, I don't check the group soon enough.
