Hi, Steve. I’d like to know more about your recording setup especially the lighting you use and the editing software/hardware you use to make such well put together videos

O.O I gave this speaker (this type probably not this exact one lol) to my Dad as a Christmas present years ago. He used it for years! EDIT: And tinfoil would have been something he'd have done too. Still very unlikely to be the same one, but I'm side-eyeing it a bit now. xD

I would have just tied a knot in the cable to make a strain relief.

Why not just use flux and hot air to remove the faulty button? It's surface mount, after all. Doesn't matter if you melt the plastic as the old switch is going straight in the bin anyway.

I had the exact same idea with the hot glue to transmist the light of the charging LED. Still watching and looking forward to see if it works out...

Couple more options for that LED indicator light placement. You could run LED to one of the buttons on top or use fiber wire to a new self made hole next to those buttons. Maybe even replace one of the buttons with clear material..

You should have put some shrink tube on the main cord coming out of the strain relief as extra strain relief.

Have bought, sold, handled, cleaned 1000`s of Nintendo carts across their console range. Try leaving the board to soak in Isopropyl alcohol overnight and then drying the board with a hairdryer or hot air gun. The NES, SNES and 64 carts are very susceptible to temperature fluctuations and often fail when cold. Another trick is to cover the contacts in Isopropyl alcohol and insert the cart "wet". With the gold flashing having been rubbed off even if you get it to work that cart is always going to have issues and you can`t re flash the contacts.

@StezStixMix sorry steve can i ask. Ive got no experience of this type of thing. I have similar to what u have but with usb stick. If i put that into an sd coveter for the steam deck that would eork the same or somthing else to consider? Also does duel booting damage the deck if done on a consistent basis or normal and fine. Lastly i can see you use the volume and power button to go into the booting screen but how do you get bsck to the steam OS? Do u simply press the power button off and when it powers up automatically would be in steam.OS system?sorry for all the questions btw, thsnks Patrick

The button wasn't working is because it was soaked in the original flux so you could have soaked it in alcohol and then it would have probably worked.

I didn't know which comment to go for, so you get a two-for-one deal on this comment. Is this just you gearing up to filming a slightly larger blue car restoration? :D or Dave's like a tiny wizard with a protective bubble spell around him, laughing at the mortals.

I know nothing of the ways of hardware gurus. I am a software guy. Still, I enjoyed this and it reminded me of a time an Electrical Engineering friend helped repair my DS Lite. I am half way through so I don't know how it turned out, but I have a funny feeling you are gonna get this working again. It is DK after all, and we all know it is On Like Donkey Kong! (Hm. I saw to the end.)

Stez, you can buy low temperatures thermosetting plastic which softens in nothing more than boiling water and takes a few minutes to go solid, allowing you to mould it. You could have made the plastic thingy bit from that. The great thing about it is, if it’s not correct just put it in boiling water to soften and start again.

For keeping the tactile switch flush with the board, it might have been better to put the wire on top of the pins, using a U shape to reach both pins.
