Awesome tutorial! I hope you do more Higedan! They are my favourite band for all the reasons you mentioned. Personally, I think they have the coolest sound coming out of Japan right now. I just found your channel, and it seems like you're living my dream! Playing music and working in Japan.

@DoomacamАй бұрын
@@rickyrayreid I visited in April this year and loved it more than I even imagined, so now I have some serious aspirations to move there within the next few years. hopefully I can make it happen sooner rather than later. I have some doubts as to whether I have the credentials to work there since I only have a 2 year Canadian diploma (equivalent to like an associate degree in the U.S) in music majoring voice performance. I've heard you NEED a degree from many people, but I don't think I could do 3 or 4 more years of school. I have some experience working with a Boy's choir as a voice coach. Honestly I'd be happy working most jobs if I get the chance to live there. I just want to make sure I can sustain myself with a job before I leave.

@rickyrayreidАй бұрын
Hey man! I;m glad the layout has helped and good luck on the board build! Just wanted to share what i've implemented lately and its made a HUGEEEE difference in the flexibility and number of patches. Here is a video of Andy Woods (ispiration from Andy Timmons) on using an expression pedal for the delays! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJTJmmywhZWDntk It means you can keep your delay always on and on the same patch so you can have it available anytime you want by rolling your foot forward on the expression pedal. This will save you a ton of patches especially on your new ATOM coming in! I've been using it for the past month like this and its INCREDIBLE. Let me know how your board build goes and send me a picture once its done!!!

I have wanted a PRS S2 MCCARTY THINLINE for some time now. I am starting to feel my (70) age, so I suffer from some arthritis in my small thumbs, hands, and wrists. My Ltd 256 and my Squier Mustang are not bad. But, the PRS S2 Thinline appears to be made with me in mind. Even with several guitar stores in the 50-mile radius around my home in the Philly suburbs, no one carries any in new or used inventory, let alone even a floor model to try out. Sweetwater might be the answer, but I am not crazy about buying a $2K (or, a used $1.5K from Reverb) rig just to play musical chairs/guitars on a piece I end up not liking. Your advice is well taken. Any advice?
@rickyrayreid2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching the video! I think if you’re personally going for the shorter scale length to help with hand pain and arthritis I think you’re making a good choice with the McCarty! This way you get less string tension (easier to play) and a lighter body (to help with heaviness). I still think that PRS are great quality guitars but sometimes don’t hit home on resonance or pickups. But since it sounds like you’re looking for “playability” more I’d go with that for sure! The SE models are great as well ranging from $700-1200ish. If you upgrade electronics ($200-350) it’ll be dangerously close or better sound wise than a stock S2, in my opinion! I feel like so much of the sound of a guitar is determined by the pickups and amp, more so than the tonewood. Still VERY IMPORTANT to have a great guitar that has resonance but honestly not the most important if you’re looking for the playability aspect. Personally I’d go for it! Since you’re getting it from Sweetwater the returns are great and they’ll take care of you if something “manufacturer defect” wise happens! I hope this helps! Please let me know what ya end up with! Thanks!

PRS guitars in my humble opinion suck so bad that I have stopped taking them in for setups and repairs at my shop. They are just cheap as they come. Finish, hardware, electronics, bridges, tuners, truss rod adjustments and truss rod covers. I hope I never see another one ever again. And don't go there because I have seen all models and all SUCK!!!!!!!!!! Sorry!

PRS for me is about versatility even if you only use 2 or 3 configuration. But the options are there if you need it. I wish they make an SE version of the Fiore with rosewood board with the same switching configuration. That will be my ultimate PRS config. XD

I agree with most everything you said, especially go play the guitar before you buy it. I do not like coil splitting. I prefer single coil guitars over coil splitting. I have fourPRS guitars, 2SE‘s and 2 core instruments.
@stewarttomkinson33562 ай бұрын
Oh, I bought an Ibanez copy with hum backing pick ups and a five way switch and a coil tap. Nope now has a three-way switch and the coil tap is not connected. Oh and I put Seymour Duncan in it $300 pick up sounds delicious.
@rickyrayreidАй бұрын
Heck yeah! What Seymour Duncan pickups did you go with?
@stewarttomkinson3356Ай бұрын
@ greenies I had to change the polarity in the neck pick up otherwise in the middle position, all they did was squeal. Those things are made because you have to have two volumes and two tone knobs and there’s only one of each eye. I didn’t really know it so now they’re pretty much JB‘s
@joejustjoe39262 ай бұрын
PRS does not want to sound like a fender. The tapped pups are for sonic variances and can be tweaked with ease through a daw or EQ/Shaper while recording. It has its place. My Swamp ash special nails Johnny Winter, Queen, and Steely Dan (all single coil) just to name a few.
@rickyrayreid2 ай бұрын
Definitely a great point, I think I’m just so accustomed to hear/want a fender sound Tele or strat since most of my favorite players use those! So maybe I’m just expecting something from a product that it wasn’t intended to do! Definitely worth an extra thought next time I’m out looking for one! Thanks!

The 25" scale is weird sounding to me. High quality for sure, and great looks. I've had 6 of them... meh!! Buy a Tom Anderson!!
@rickyrayreid2 ай бұрын
I heard people love Tom Anderson guitars! Do you have one? What’s your opinion on em? Thanks!
@revelationsoundstudio2 ай бұрын
If you want strat sound, then use a strat type of guitar. If you want a guitar with multiple sounds including humbuckers, that sound great and split coil for those pretty songs that you can add chorus or a nice delay to for a unique sound, then the Custom 24 is a great option. The Custom 24 08 with its switches is good if you want a brighter sound. Personally, the regular Custom 24 has a fuller slightly warmer sound, and I just prefer it. Buying used is a great idea, however new SE'a are affordable and the S2 is still alot less than the Core. However many on line stores offer 24 or 36 months no interest so if you are good with your money, you can get the color and the latest updates they offer on their guitars.
@rickyrayreid2 ай бұрын
Very true, awesome advice on the SE and S2 lines! For the more budget guitars like those I think that PRS blows other brands out of the water. I’ve played some great SEs but it’s just the looks that make the biggest impact for me when it comes to the maple top! Thanks for the comment!
@jimm49052 ай бұрын
If you think nothing beats an HSS style guitar, maybe you should have tried the PRS Studio instead of the ones you did buy. 😉
@rickyrayreid2 ай бұрын
Ah yes! You know that ones definitely hasn’t been on my radar just because I’ve usually been in love with the custom 24s (because to me they’re iconic for PRS) Do you have one? What are your favorite things about it? Thanks!
@jimm49052 ай бұрын
@rickyrayreid Yep, I have one. I like the near hum free, really clean sounding S S pickups. PRS's Narrowfield pickups sound really good to me verses the split coil sound on a PRS guitar. The PRS Studio H pickup (bridge) doesn't have the bite that most of the Strat HSS guitars that I have played, so that may be a downside for you, but I like the warm bridge sound the Studio produces.
@jimm49052 ай бұрын
I should also add that I like the PRS Studio with its 5 way switch because it can produce that "quack sound" in the 2 & 4 positions. Which is something my CE24 cannot do.
@rickyrayreid2 ай бұрын
Oooo that’s definitely interesting, I’ve never played the narrowfield pickups so if you say they give a more single coil sound I might like it. I actually like the Humbucker PRS pickups too (with just careful EQ of pedals) sometimes a bit too dark for me but still great! Thanks for the insight on the studio model! I’ll try to get my hands on one soon to try it out!

Great Video this Midi stuff is confusing though lol.
@rickyrayreid2 ай бұрын
Hey man! I hope my video helped a bit! It’s weird why they did that and didn’t just start the programming at bank 1 😭 instead they chose to start at 00 for the first bank, but I hope that makes sense! Here’s a small guide if it’s still confusing. The first bank (00) is PC+ 0 (A footswitch) and 1 (B footswitch) The second bank (01) is PC+ 2 and 3 The third bank (02) is PC+ 4 and 5 Etc… 4th (03) is pc+ 6 and 7 5th (04) is pc+ 8 and 9 …big skip… 10th (09) is PC+ 20 and 21 …big skip… 20th (19) is PC+ 38 and 39 Let me know if you get stuck!
