Resourceful, we've lost it (the purpose).

As someone who struggles to read and understand scripture, this is incredibly helpful. Recently , I've had the strong urge to go out and disciple and minister, but I've been reluctant because I don't serve in church, and i'm not a pastor. This passage confirms that it is okay that i do not have any experience. All i need to teach is what Jesus has taught me.

This really saddens me because it’s a perfect example of what we do in the evangelical community when it comes to “teaching” people. We focus on what needs to happen without telling people how to do what needs to happen. It gives us a false sense of fulfillment and accomplishment but when the message is over, especially several days later, we’ve done absolutely nothing to show people how to change their lives. All we’ve done is tell people that their lives need to change. This is why many people are leaving the church, everybody. This is why many people have given up on Christianity because we tell people what to do and we don’t show people HOW to do it. No kidding, God wants us to be able to endure hardship. No kidding, God wants us to be able to persevere. The real question, however, is, HOW does God enable us to persevere? And, is it really true that it’s not possible to accomplish anything eternally significant unless we are entirely dependent upon God? Has there never been anybody who was not a Christian who did something so amazing and so incredible that we read about it today and are amazed? Of course! God has given us, because we are created in his likeness, the ability to do amazing things. The human mind, for example, created by the architect, has unbelievable capacity. Just intrinsically, the way we are made. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and capable of accomplishing far more than we realize. I think we need to begin to question the narrative, that many of us keep perpetuating, and Levi is perpetuating the narrative flawlessly, and it needs to stop if I could say so with all humility, and all respect. It does not work, everybody. The system, and the approach is fundamentally flawed. We need to stop telling people what needs to happen in our lives, and start focusing on how the change needs to happen. Until that happened, nothing will change.
