hello i have a 1650 super that uses 100 watts with a six pin slot should i use a sata to six pin or would a dual sata be better just to be safe

The 1650 super requires a PSU of 350w or above, the OptiPlex 5040 has only 240w - you will need to change the PSU. FYI ... Dell and HP make their PSU proprietary. Make sure the new PSU fits - Apevia/Corsair 500w should fit - plus 24pin to 8pin adapter. The new PSU should have 6/8 pin GPU connectors already. Hi Jose. This one recognized and booted up with 32GB RAM - no problem. *** Dell community says "Dell spec max memory is 16 GB DDR3L 1600. But you may add up to 32 GB with latest BIOS update."

@@jose-ec3co I believe this is a used/refurbished PC, they should have updated everything already. Put your RAM in, should work fine. If not, connect to the internet and type update in the search bar and click on "check for updates." Update everything including additional update. If bios was not updated, it will reboot and will update the bios - do not turn off your PC - let it do its thing. After that, your all set, install your 32GB RAM.

Yes, it's a really good PC - great for rendering Adobe After Effects and Premiere, for gaming - I don't game. I used it for a while until I got the Dell XPS 8940. Just be aware concerning GPU upgrade - this PC has only 350W Power Supply Unit (PSU). Make sure you check PSU requirements for your GPU. To replace the PSU is going to be difficult because HP uses proprietary PSU.

Thank you for the quick answer ! if I’m not mistaken the psu that you recommended have a 6+2 pci-e connector that I can connect to the gpu so in theory it should work. I just wanna to be sure before I order it because it’s not for me, it’s for a client 😅 So if you tell me it fit into the case l will order it !

@@marcprebende8090 I don't have that PC anymore - it quickly sold. I never tried upgrading the PSU. If you try it and it does not work - return to Amazon. That's the beauty of Amazon Prime - return no questions asked. Don't forget to order the power connector adapters as well.

Push the front button in the front to open the tray, if it does not work (no lights/power) - you might need to open the computer and re-plug the SATA power and data cables inside.

Nice. Get a couple of NVMe install them in each PC. You have 2 very fast working computer/s. Just FYI ... will not support Windows 11, because Win 11 requires 8 generation and above, but there are work-around to bypass requirements - google how to .... Windows 10 support/updates will end October 2025.

There is a kind of Microsoft plan, where you can keep Win 10 for about 3 more years, but it's kind of pricey! As a kind of hobby I look for electronics in dumpsters and curbside stuff!

I sold a few of these computers not meeting Win 11 requirements but installed Win 11 bypass the CPU and TPM requirements - of course I inform the buyers. All of them don't really care bec it still does all the updates anyways. I do some dumpster and curbside too, but mostly I buy them from offerup and/or craigslist. I upgrade and do videos and sell them. I don't make much money, it's a hobby (I'm retired - and keeps the brain active) - and I just like messing around with computers - it's fun.

I don't have this PC anymore - sold. But yes, you could do 3 HDD for RAID 5, the power cables are there all you need are the HDDs and SATA cables.

Just ordered it on Ebay for a front desk PC. All I'm going to do with it is play music, look up parts, look up tutorials, print stuff, the most basic boring stuff any PC could do but I went lenovo ryzen 16gb because I want it to be fast doing all the basic stuff I need to do. I hate slow machines. I can't live with one that's slow.

Congratulations, good choice! AMD Ryzen are good CPUs, 16 GB RAM is perfect for what you use for, 32 GB would be better if you are running multiple extensive software. I don't like slow PCs either, thus I buy PCs and upgrade (RAM, SSD/NVMe) then KZbin video them, then sell them. That's my hobby, to give chances in reviving slower PCs and make them faster. @@Johnny_Fox_Show Wow, you are all set on your build. That's super-fast - 1hr video rendered in 3 minutes, very nice. I did have a precision dual Xeon 64GB RAM, that was very fast as well. Buyer tested and installed Fusion and was impressed with speeds - no hiccups - sold 😀. I should have kept it he he he, I got too many computers.

You could also replace the dvd rom for a drive caddy to hold another hard drive or ssd. Check the cmos battery too while you have the side off.

You could get a fan, make sure it fits on the power connector in the motherboard. Or if you have NVMe you really don't need fans, just NVMe heatsink.
