Excellent video Ken. You sound very passionate about weak fish. I also am very passionate my favorite fish to catch. Like you mentioned, they are very elusive. And to catch them, you have to know what you're doing. You of course. Sounds like you have it down. I. Fish South Jersey, anywhere from Avalon to Cape may point Again, excellent video and good information.I really enjoyed it.

Thanks for the great compliment! It’s time for them now in my neck of the woods but unfortunately I’m out of commission awaiting a triple vertebrae fusion surgery in my neck! The pain is immense! Best of luck out there!

Back in the late 80s in the Delaware Bay, they were stacked they were like clock work around 9 am with a shedder crab they would start up. We would throw anything under 4 lbs back. We would go out of Fortescue nj amazing fishing .that was a beautiful 14 lber. I saw a guy catch a monster on a night drum fishing trip I don't remember how many pounds it was .

How is the bull bay rod for blackfish and bucktailing for fluke?
@kenwesterfeldfishing2244
@kenwesterfeldfishing2244 9 ай бұрын
I like the BULL BAY 7’6” REEL ANIMALS 8-17 lb test spinning rod VERY MUCH for both jigging tog and buck tailing fluke. Although my only complaint about it would be that it needs a slightly longer rod butt. Therefore, I may have mine extended 6”. And when I’m in need of another one, I’d have it built with a 6” butt extension.

Will connecting the leader to braid with a barrel swivel also cause the spoon to spin or is the concern only for the swivel on the snap?
@kenwesterfeldfishing2244
@kenwesterfeldfishing2244 Жыл бұрын
A swivel is made to spin. So I can only assume that any swivel in the system will cause spinning.

What size sp do you typically use for strippers? 6 3/4 or 6?
@kenwesterfeldfishing2244
@kenwesterfeldfishing2244 Жыл бұрын
I use all 3 sizes, with the 6 1/4” medium size being my GO TO receiving the most amount of action. The small size also gets lots of bites and is highly effective when the fish are generally running smaller in size. The draw back is the smaller hooks don’t stay buttoned to bigger bass as well usually. So again I find that the 6 1/4” works best. I have caught some bass on the 6 3/4” but I don’t usually receive the same amount of action on it. Colors that I find work best for me personally are bone, chicken scratch, purple back/ silver sides, or blurple.

I just got 1 from my dad he passed wonder can you tell me how to line it
@kenwesterfeldfishing2244
@kenwesterfeldfishing2244 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for your loss. First I add 40 or 50 lb test mono line for backing I give the line 3 wraps around the spool and tie it tightly with an improved clinch knot. Then I reel enough on to cover the bottom of the spool and stop. Then I uni to to uni knot my 50 lb test braid to the mono and fill the spool. If you’re not confident in what I’m telling you just let a tackle shop spool it for you. They don’t charge a lot for the service.

Do you use lemon to clean off the skin of slime and rinse off before you fillet?
@kenwesterfeldfishing2244

No never. I don't think that's necessary. I don't think you'll ever see a mate or a fish monger do that. You're not going to eat the skin, it gets skinned off of the fillet.
