Whatever happened to gateshead high St...( oh sorry Icelandic bank )

Gateshead high street is a right mess. It's a right dumping ground full of drugs, and alcoholics. 😢😢

To be honest Ive never been in there me self.. Lot of the guys did on a Friday.. Thats before they started shutting the gates & would open them when it was dinner time.. Seriously it was like a stampede..! I worked at A&P Appledores for 15 years before it shut.. I remember some of me work mates would run from smiths dock to catch the ferry to go to south shields to go & see the strippers at the new Ferry Tavern in Ferry Street... If I was working at smiths I would pop in the Wolsington House pub in North shields it's just literally out side the gates.. To be honest strippers weren't my thing... Put working up & down the river, Honestly good memories.. Good times.. That's when ships were lined up waiting to go in to dock...

Always seems such a a waste to see all that track and signal infrastructure deemed to be no longer required. Why not keep in use if was widely used for diversions? Always useful to keep redundancy in the network for additional capacity due to network maintenance. Is this short trim from Network Rail to save money?

Great vids teesside two s . We used to do the pub crawl down the black path. Start in the bottom house gtown then to the junction southbank then the station hotel then the ruin as it was known cargo fleet then the navigation. The same pubs on the homeward journey all down the black path .only the navigation left now

Sent out to the Caribbean with 24 others following hurricane Katrina....promised two weeks, but turned into three. Loved working on the Bibby Sapphire, however the crew did not acknowledge my requests for further essential health care. Memories I will never forget.

I used to work casual labour at spillers in the 70s, it was like a cathedral inside, don't understand why it was demolished, It could have been repurposed like the balltic mill was, there was something special about it which I cant remember, was it the biggest concrete building in the world or something like that,

There probably weren't enough customers to keep the Wolsington House going once Smiths closed. Sad to say, the town has seen its pubs severely decline in the last 20 years. The High East End used to have seven pubs 30 years ago, only one is left now.
