Bought a 61 sa200, didn’t understand the generator side of things so I took it to a guy he gave me a run down. Said it had bad exciter coils, brushes and rheostat. Tried charging me 1600 for the coils only, so I found these guys and bought all those things so I hope they work out in my machine.

Why is it just the two middle cylinders?
@bwparts
@bwparts 3 ай бұрын
No exact reason behind it that we know of. Either running lean or rich in those cyliders. There was a aftermarket muffler put on this unit that could've caused this. But not completely sure of the cause. Great question!

You can use a $20 borescope on a smartphone and put it in the sparkplug holes.(easier to pull plugs than a head usually)

Thats a great idea! Might be hard depending on the application of the borescope your using. Not familiar with a Smartphone borescope. May be something we need to check out!

@@bwparts Skip the phone version. Amazon sells borescopes with dedicated displays for $30 that are great. They usually come with small end attachments like a mirror to see behind the camera if needed and are about 1/4" diameter.

Dang, I always knew I shouldve taken apart the engine before I bought it
@bwparts
@bwparts 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, may just want to rebuild it before you buy it! Here's a start. Rebuilding an engine is definitely a detailed process, and taking it apart beforehand could have saved you some headaches. It starts with draining fluids and disassembling everything, from the intake and exhaust manifolds to the pistons and crankshaft. Then, you inspect everything for wear and damage, and if necessary, you might have to get some parts machined, like boring the cylinders or resurfacing the head. After everything's cleaned and new parts like bearings, seals, and pistons are installed, you reassemble it with new gaskets, get the timing right, and add fresh oil and coolant. It’s a lot of work, but if you’d caught any issues early, you’d have known what you were dealing with! ;)
@garreth629
@garreth629 3 ай бұрын
If you've got a borescope/ endoscope you should be able to inspect the cylinders by pulling the sparkplugs. They're not that expensive and it's much less invasive. It's much more likely that a seller will let you pull the plugs then pull the heads before purchasing. Though on a flathead pulling a head should be fairly simple.

Using oil is a bad thing. It’s getting into the cylinder and burning out. That’s when you see the blue/white smoke coming out the exhaust
