This is impressive. Do you have somewhere other than Facebook where you outline specs and construction? Thanks :) Nice.

I've been following for quite some time your adventures and I realy like how you attack your challenges. Step by step you experiment, you try, you fail, you succeed. I follow the same exact route in building my biomass burning installation at home. It took me already six years, but I am already in the stage that it is running automaticaly and heating the house and providing hot water. Just keep up the work, you are following the right path!

Is the dump load connected directly to the turbine?
@GavinFreedomLover4 күн бұрын
Its connected through a Tristar TS45 controller.
@55Ramius4 күн бұрын
That seemed to work well.
@GavinFreedomLover4 күн бұрын
Cheers yes it does, especially as it's running direct from the wind turbine battery and will only come on when the sand gets hot and sucks a few amps straight out of the battery, the device is great for £3.25.
@hommerdalor63014 күн бұрын
Thanks for showing wind speed ;-)
@GavinFreedomLover4 күн бұрын
It's hard to film the power meters and the wind speed at the same time it was 15-25mph , the wind never stays the same exact speed it's always changing.
@Nebukadnezar-jw1mt4 күн бұрын
i have same idea with solar + china windturbines (2 meter rotor diametre; other are to small) and PTC HEAT ELEMENTS ... but here is not enough wind most times .. i wait for bigger china turbine because now i only have one with 1,1 meter rotor diametre ..

It doesn't need one as the motor is naturally harder to turn than an axial flux therefore it governs itself , plus I have a basic controller than dumps up to 30 amps once it goes over 29 volts , it's going to be mega windy for 12 hours tomorrow so I will get some numbers how much it makes.
@hommerdalor63015 күн бұрын
Up to 500W is good with almost full battery. How much was the wind speed?
@GavinFreedomLover5 күн бұрын
500w is about 15-18mph 1kw at 25-28mph and 1.5kw at 40mph, the motor is a a 3kw ebike hub motor.

I wonder if tensioner roller would keep the chain on track and snug? Also I have heard of people waxing chains to keep corrosion out and to retain lube.
@GavinFreedomLover5 күн бұрын
Yes it probably would , it's running so much better with the extra bit of chain removed.
@Dave5843-d9m6 күн бұрын
This is a bodge because the wiper motor uses a worm gear to give a high step down ratio and prevent any free movement at the side effect of poor efficiency. Bike chain then steps it all up and adds a free wheel. More energy losses.
@jannis56946 күн бұрын
You should really use a BMS or at least a balance charger, otherwise bad things could happen. but cool vid :D
@dansshop7 күн бұрын
Nice that you share the updates. I always used to have trouble fitting sizable blades to a shaft, even with a key/set screw/fairly large shaft they'd usually wind up getting welded on at hte end of the day. I'm not sure if that's the problem here. One thing that surprises me a little about this machine is the chain ~ I think it has a hard life.
@GavinFreedomLover6 күн бұрын
Cheers brother , I actually shortened the chain now I feel it's going to work better , The chain has caused me problems but saves me the expense of building an axial flux motor as it lets me use the bike motor, going to be 40mph + for a couple of hours tomorrow hopefully she'll give a good account of herself.

@ezzbuttheyshouldntleavethe552914 күн бұрын
If it was me, i'd put fuses between individual cells just in case one fails short circuit so the whole pack doesn't dump all its energy out at once in a very spicy way otherwise, great work!
@ezzbuttheyshouldntleavethe552914 күн бұрын
also please don't charge a series pack w/o balance leads!! you could accidentally over/underdischarge cells due to capacity differences as they age

@GavinFreedomLover16 күн бұрын
Yes I think you are correct but If you are in the car for an hour and it's raining they stay on , maybe the heat is due to running over 12 volts !! More video's to come about this for sure :)
@chancegeorge558315 күн бұрын
Agree imagine full blast wipers for 1 hour. The load is most likely where the heat is coming from. The voltage may play a small factor but if you take the weight off I think it won’t heat up at 16v

Curious to see how this goes, subbed. I have some ideas about using wiper motors for an RC tracked vehicle. Not much speed but lots of torque.
@GavinFreedomLover16 күн бұрын
They have a winch like amount of torque, I looked up it said they have 15nm but feels like loads more , would be perfect to drive a trolley over bad terrain, I ordered some server fans to cool the motor down as it got very warm after 45 minutes, which I can build a separate battery, cheers,

what top speed on your bike do you think it will achieve?
@GavinFreedomLover16 күн бұрын
Probably only 10mph but should have a long range , be able to go up hills fairly easily , only requires a small battery , doesn't need an expensive controller.
@allanedwards534917 күн бұрын
Good project - the weak link may be the reduction gear in the wiper motor - The worm gear on the motor shaft usually drived a nylon gear which I think will be prone to stripping unless there's some sort of slipping friction clutch mechanism.

Theirs only one way to find out as the saying goes cheers for the comment.

Start saving for some new bearings after spraying WD-40 in the grease hole. Go borrow a grease gun if you can't afford one give a neighbor some pocket change for using theirs to properly grease the bearings. These are called grease zerts by the way.

@CharlesNewkirk-lb6uh19 күн бұрын
WD-40 is not what those bearings need basically it was designed as a water repellent for aircraft aviation wings!
@GavinFreedomLover19 күн бұрын
Hello mate it's actually WD40 lithium grease spray , as I said I don't have a grease gun or any fund so I thought it might be better than nothing mm cheers.
@philhermetic19 күн бұрын
WD 40 is not a lubricant, it will wreck the bearings, get a grease gun from a car boot sale and fill them full of grease. the frictional losses in dry rusty chains will also lose huge amounts of energy that shoyuld be turned into electricity. Its a good set up, poorly maintained!
