I watched that scene many times and first time noticed that Clint Eastwood parks his car on the empty parking spot near the shop, and it seems he is doing it for the last 10 years. That would be like "dream comes true" for the today's New Yorker...

This scene never fails to make me laugh. Bad guys are sitting around hiding and not robbing until Harry leaves. Then they jump up and start waving their guns around and taking hostages BUT STILL NOT ROBBING. And it's in broad daylight, with huge picture windows showing all of the activity to the crowded streets. These guys are geniuses.

However enjoyable this scene is, it’s a bit hard to believe that Harry was so absorbed in his newspaper, that he didn’t notice the sugar trick! Nor did the gangsters!
