Going to Siberia would have got them arrested. The USSR did not declare was until after the two A bombs were dropped. Read Don Keith's "Torpedo Run". The Admiral wrote "Thunder Below".

I am a Vietnam combat vet and I used to watch these shows when I was a VERY young kid.Isn't it sad that there are so many wars where young men die and politicians live?

I have watched this series when I was a very young kid. My dad fought in the South Pacific as a Marine. My mom was in the Navy during WW II. I guess that is where I got it from. I am a Vietnam Combat Engineer veteran and I think series like this helped cement my thoughts of military service. God bless all that served. viewed in San Diego, California USA

USS Grouper sunk the Japanese ship with 1800 Britsh POW on board in 1942 at China East Sea, and 800 of the POW lost their lives. It is a shame that this most critical evet of this submarine was not mentioned at all!

Every submarine crewmember has to qualify to earn their dolphins..that means every man can interchangeably do any job. The cooks and stewards were often on gun crews and all had a battle station.

At 08:22, subs are NOT referred to as ships, they are BOATS!! Obviously whoever wrote the script for this episode was NOT a submariner.
