@@limpoderpimp Moin Moin. Naja, was heißt angedeutet. 😁

So the "randomness" of the request stops is actually just preprogrammed into the timetable, if I understand correctly? Do you know if you can then handle things like request stop lights in a cab, or passengers only spawning on the platform when the player service is currently expected to stop?
@TicketToTheNorth7 ай бұрын
Yes, that is entirely correct. Without touching the rail vehicle itself, I fear a request stop light is not possible. Passengers spawning only when the player service is stopping is more likely, because as far as I understand it that spawn rate is controlled by a curve over time that I can set individually for each station in my project.
@annadess7 ай бұрын
@@TicketToTheNorth Seems fair enough, though I wish we had more of a special timetable node developed that would gather data from the spawn rate curve, and then calculate a % chance based on how likely it is people might want to stop there. If the random value is below the % threshold that node counts as a stop at instruction, if not it counts as a go via. It would require special setup for localization and such for the "T" key menu for example that shows the whole timetable, and it then only being revealed after a similar "go via" instruction a few hundred meters before the stop. And that'd require a lot of work on the core of timetable logic, which I doubt many would have the skills to do or the permission to let them change things. 😅 But I think it would be a "more complete" way of doing request stops and adding replayability to the same services, which due to the nature might have a sparse timetable already.

I think it might be closer to the real experience if you put the marker even closer to the platform, i.e. in direct viewing distance (where you'd be able to see if there are people who want to enter your train). This would require the player to brake sufficiently before reaching the marker, and maybe the marker description should be changed to try and reflect that - but I think that two or three stops in, the way it works would become obvious. From what I've heard, this can be how it goes in real life as well, where the train slows down as if it was a regular stop and only decides to pass and accelerate again very shortly before it would have stopped.
@TicketToTheNorth7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, yes, that sounds like another option. There are two cases: Someone from inside the train uses the stop request button, or someone is waiting on the platform. In the former case, you know quite far in advance that you have to stop. In the latter case you already have to brake and watch the platform, like you said. Ideally there should be a good way to have both cases working. Maybe two markers like this, one checkpoint for the internal stop request and another one close to the platform. Not perfect but that could work. I doubt that DTG will create a dedicated feature for it anytime soon since they've already released routes without request stops which would have had them in real life.
@justuslm7 ай бұрын
@@TicketToTheNorth I think two markers is a good idea, and would also add some variation to the cases where you do need to stop, while ensuring you can never know early when you don't need to stop. And yeah, a "proper" implementation is unlikely to ever happen, but I think this is already an improvement over Dovetail's "just stop everywhere". I don't know anything about how the game works internally, but maybe it could even be possible to make it random which markers will force you to stop and which will let you pass, even if it's decided at the very beginning, similar to the "On Your Bike" scenario on Maintalbahn where the bicycle spawns at a random station when you start. Ideally, you'd even have people on the platform only spawn if the second marker will tell you to stop, but I don't think this would actually work.
