How will it help with the green hair algae?
@KentuckyReef
@KentuckyReef 9 сағат бұрын
@ it helps with all algae. It helps establish a good biological filtration. I have had my current reef tank (mainly sps) for over ten years and I have NEVER used any chemicals like chemiclean. The only thing I have used is MicroBacter7, water changes, kalk, and carbon dosing. I have started dosing straight ammonia within the last year but that’s nothing that I would suggest.

You definitely need more flow What are your parameters? You’re taking a very big risk by not quarantining your fish AND coral!

The Tomini Tang will be a beast at eating algae! They’re one of the best, and they are smaller than the other Tangs… But it will still outgrow that tank.

Next water change try and manually scrub and remove as much algea as you can. I think the window is not helping your case as well, the sun is just feeding the algae perfectly. Turn down reds and greens in your light settings.

Thats what I have been doing. I try to pinch off and suck out as much as I can. I did cut the lights back from 9 hours to 6 hours. I know it's a horrible place for the tank but that's really the only place it can go

You should up your clean up crew by a lot. Emerald Crab for bubble algae, also get a small Urchin to help with the hair algae. I have a 40 gallon cube with about 20 astrea snails, 35 tiny hermit crabs, a handful of Nassarius snails, turbo snails and many more.

@@ShrimpDaddy94 grab some Astrea, Trochus, and Cerith snails from your LFS, i would start with about 5-7 of each one. Trochus snails have a big appetite and they can also flip themselves over (less dying). Also grab a few tiny tiny like baby hermit crabs, they can fit into all the crevices in the rock.

Well it’s kind of obvious that tank will have massive algae There’s no competition for the nutrients lol You have too much bioload but not competing for the nutrients Very few corals to fight the algae the best way should try a skimmer or put some macro algae there No cleanup crew will save this tank man they will all die off
@ShrimpDaddy94
@ShrimpDaddy94 Ай бұрын
What makes you say they will die off?? That fish did die like 3 days after I posted this video. I do have a skimmer already, and from what I have seen, the algae isn't bad for the fish it's just ugly. I added some more clean up crew and a wave maker to help with the flow. I have been doing 20% Water changes weekly. I thought with some faster growing corals they would take off but they just arnt growing

You should remove xenias and GSP from the main flow or you will regret it soon :D They are almost impossible to remove once they get used to your tank and start spreading. They also grow so fast that they will beat any coral you add to your tank, won't let them thrive
@aritosoto
@aritosoto Ай бұрын
You also need a good amount of flow, cyano bacteria(red things on the sand) is a sign of low flow and part of cycling progress. I'd recommend getting 3-4 snails + hermit crabs. They eat short algea but once algea get big you either need to remove with hand or get a tuxedo urchin

Hello from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I'm happy to subscribe to yours! I love, love, love the vintage aquarium. What you could do is get a lot of jungle Val and line the rear with it. It's not expensive, grows fast and well. I'd also commit to one form of stone as opposed to a hodge podge. I'm all for eclectic creativity but usually results are best using same type wood and rocks. Good luck!

Hello from my fish room in northwest Indiana! I do have some val I want to bring over, but we have a number of problems. I'm doing this rehab on a tight, tight budget lol. This tank is my uncles, he is on board with the rehab but not spending a lot to get it done. I think the original lights were a little weak, so I added some new lighting. I would love to totally switch out all the rock, but I'm trying to work with most of what I already have.

Cool video man, glad youtube threw it at me. Are you sure there's not enough nutrients? If you have hair algae growing, it's probably quite a bit. You probably already thought it but Maybe get some root tabs. It shouldn't make the algae grow too much Because you strategically place them. Those plants are all too cool to see any die fighting for nutrients. I would totally buy some of that mystery plant off of you. There's also the possibility you're shrimp are eating your plants.

I think it is a nutrient deficiency, I have been trying to dose more fertilizers and do more frequent water changes but I think the Java fern are eating up all my potassium

I also can’t raise my nitrates because the plants just consume it all so I’m trying to gradually up the amount of fertilizers I use. I check every 3 days and I’m always like 0ppm to 20ppm
