Preston Semel, majority partner of Semel & Company, once a leading New York commodities trading firm, pleaded guilty yesterday to Federal charges of conspiracy and commodities fraud. He had been indicted earlier with the firm's president, Charles Federbush, and Michael Renner, a floor broker employed by Semel, in the theft of trading profits from customers and on charges of making secret and illegal trades. The charges relate to trading in gold and silver futures contracts on New York's Commodity Exchange Inc., known as the Comex. Mr. Semel, 41 years old, of Armonk, N.Y., is scheduled to be sentenced March 26, 1992. He faces a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $750,000. Mr. Federbush, a former Comex board member and vice chairman, pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy and commodities fraud. The case against Mr. Renner is scheduled to go to trial in December. The indictment is similar to a civil lawsuit filed in Washington by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission against seven individuals including Mr. Semel and Mr. Federbush along with their firms.

Charlie Federbush got what he wanted? That's what I read below. Here's a CFTC Docket 91-7 June 25/92 CEASE & DESIST ORDER; PEN. AMNT.: $200,000; TRAD. PRIV. SUSP. 12 MO.; REG. REVOKED AS FB & CTA; MUST LIQUIDATE ALL FUTURES AND OPTIONS POSITIONS; MAY NOT APPLY TO REGISTER WITH THE COMMISSION IN ANY CAPACITY; MAY NOT APPEAR ON ANY CONTRACT MARKET TRADING FLOOR DURING TRADING HOURS...... Was Charlie was a great guy? Zenith of professionalism? I'll let the customers at Volume Investors comment if they see this. I have no opinion. Oh, and I had a gold badge too. If you doubt I was there that lady at 3:45 is named Kasha. I knew her well. She has a green/yellow/blue badge, not gold. That means she was a COMEX. MERC. CSCE member, but not Cotton. Many floor traders were uneducated pimps who couldn't get a job elsewhere and only knew how to run stops and be bag men for guys with orders they ripped-off. A rare few retired extremely wealthy because those few have no problem living with what they stole, nor does Goldman Sach, JP Morgan, et al.

Wow! That was incredible. Seeing Harry at that age in such a crazy environment; and so bizarre that as I watched this I think about what is going on in Egypt right now. Loved the traders and clerks at the end of the day sitting or lying anywhere reviewing what had happened among a bunch of tickets and paper. It isn't just anyone that can work under those conditions and such pressure. This was a great look at the job; how wonderful to have seen Harry in it!

can someone explain to me why not simply sit in chairs and trade like in an auction. with no people crowded and yelling?
@Indrius
@Indrius 8 жыл бұрын
Because it's a double auction that can go both ways and with many participants. What you're thinking about is a basic auction where one seller is matched to one buyer and the price can only go in one direction. Anyway, open outcry is a thing of the past. It's all electronic, 24/5 and globalized nowadays.

Did the thought ever occur to you that if Goldman was helping driving up the price, as there are numerous institutions that participate in that market that also influnce market direction, why not also BUY Crude oil (CL) or buy an oil stock such as XOM, COP, CVX and make easy money??? I also missed the same mistake as I knew China and other Hedge Funds were buying Gold in 2008 but the thought didn't occur to me at the time. I won't make the mistake twice though.
