AS level is equivalent to matric, not GCSE. This is as per the UK awarding body that determines equivalencies.

The only pro in UK is safety , you can park your unlocked car on the street and still find everything intact. Another pro ,there are a lot of cheap labour jobs around ,care work,warehouse , McDonald's etc but cons are low pay, (cant even save for a flight back home)expensive accommodation, cold weather ,no social
@rbee206218 күн бұрын
For someone who came without experience, it's a definite plus but for an experienced person UK is a downgrade as a single person from SA specifically. Most thrive bcoz they're married & share expenses,which is not lucrative enough to be working in the west on such a low salary as in the UK. Another reason being that you're forced to live in shared accommodation in order to afford life in the UK.
@rbee206218 күн бұрын
No wonder they asked you to cover your own expenses instead of them doing it for you,no faith in your abilities. I paid the same R105k during Covid.

Is the salary in the UK worth it for you? For i know anything less than £42,000 is not worth it, considering the cost of living

I was at school in the 70s with a girl who was always getting into mischief. I met her years later and she told me she did those things for attention because she wasn't getting it at home. Back in those days teachers didn't understand the cause of such behaviour. So it's worth taking note of the kids who are answering you back. - what is happening in their home life to make them so disrespectful of teachers and of others. Is this a cry for help? So many children these days are not given clear boundaries by their parents so they are always trying to negotiate to get their own way or they're copying how their parents behave. I nannied for a couple of boys whose parents marriage wasn't going well so they would discipline the children differently or not at all and give in to them all the time on areas they shouldn't have. The older boy would always try arguing with me to get his own way especially when I had to take him to an after school activity! I wouldn't let him win most of the time because as an adult you know what's safe or what's right and why you're guiding them in a certain way. So in your classroom use your discipline to ask the children to behave respectfully. They need to learn to respect those in authority because they usually won't be able to behave this way in the workplace! Many workplaces have some strict rules re safety issues that can't be ignored - they're in place for good reason. Plus if they disrespect their boss they will soon be out of a job! The class clown is being a clown for a reason. Sometimes it's just to make others laugh; sometimes it's for attention and sometimes I think it can mask depression. Think of the number of comedians who have depression - eg Robin Williams. The UK has great mental health initiatives going on because the Prince and Princess of Wales (and Prince Harry) have been making sure they highlight this. They are doing great work to reduce the stigma attached to it. William talks openly about struggling with his mum's death. Catherine is doing great work in tackling very young children's issues so that stuff is dealt with at an early age. This includes intervention into families. Check out the work the Wales are doing. They're using their position to bring people together to work on mental health in all walks of life. Since William worked in the air ambulance he will often ask first responders how they are coping with the mental health aspect of the trauma they constantly see. Both of them bring it up all the time on their visits! Good luck with your teaching! From Australia ☺
