I just got into fishing and also been in the inlet. I kept getting my hook stuck in the oyster beds. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to move to a muddy bottom? Using a Carolina rig

I recently picked up a Daiwa Coastal baitcaster and it’s been great. Still fine tuning it but it’s been great. Backlashes have been minimal as you get use to it

My brother-in-law is coming in from Missouri, if you had to pick 1 week to come fishing (reds mostly) what would you pick? I told him Nov. Also do you fishing Georgetown area, have not seen any videos from that area? THANKS
@DeadCalmOutdoors6 күн бұрын
Nov is a good time. The water temps will be cooling down and reds should be schooling up. I don’t fish the Georgetown area. The currents are too strong for a kayak in my opinion. There are 3 rivers dumping into winyah bay and the currents really rip threw there

We finally made it out today…weather and work schedules haven’t cooperated lately. But we made it happen.. almost limited out on trout. Crazy thing, all on the slam shady 2.0…they wouldn’t touch the dieZel minnows for some reason. Did get flounder on the power prawn, including a thick 20 incher. Banner day tho, and much needed. 👍

That five inch jerk shad on a 1/4 oz jig head is my go to bait for dead sticking redfish schools in the winter.
@DeadCalmOutdoors20 күн бұрын
I’ll try that this weekend. Love the jerk shad for flounder. Small twitches on the bottom
@charlestoninshorefishing193220 күн бұрын
Commenting as I listen…. Remember that some soft plastics are buoyant so at the top or the bottom of tides, when you use a buoyant plastic on an eighth oz jig head, they’ll take a bit longer to drop - leaving you in the bite zone longer.
@DeadCalmOutdoors20 күн бұрын
Very true. 🤙
@charlestoninshorefishing193220 күн бұрын
A lot of the old timers said to take a drag off your cigarette. I feel like you have to be targeting flounder to actually wait to set the hook. Many times I feel like I’m stuck on the bottom before realizing it’s a flounder. I keep my rod tip up. When I feel the bite I reel down to them and set the hook. Trout, redfish, flounder all.
@DeadCalmOutdoors20 күн бұрын
lol. Never heard that. But I bet there are a thousand saying about hooking flounder

How do you prevent the saltwater from damaging your reel after fishing?
@DeadCalmOutdoorsАй бұрын
Great question. As I’m rinsing off the kayak I run alittle water over my rod and reel. Then wipe it off with a soft towel. Then once a month I oil the moving parts. 🤙
@trendin_brendanАй бұрын
My man! I’ve had the same issues with zman spinners. I love the light wire and the big thumping blade, but was always getting shook off and losing jig heads like you. Only solution I found is to take a pair of pliers and clamp the wire connection shut. You won’t be able to swap out jig heads anymore, but you won’t lose any fish! Hopefully they redesign that one soon!
@DeadCalmOutdoorsАй бұрын
That was frustrating. I’ll do that next time thanks 👊🏻🤙

I noticed that you said the slot for redfish is 15 to 27 inches. I believe you said that in another video. The size limit in South Carolina is 15 to 23 inches. Just a clarification so no o Ne keeps an illegal fish
@DeadCalmOutdoorsАй бұрын
The slot size for the tournament was 15-27”. All fish in the tournament had to be released. To legally keep a redfish in South Carolina the slot is 15”-23”. You are correct. Good pickup. 🤙👊🏻
