I had a 1970s San Diego newspaper clipping that I can't find anymore. Showed a guy that speared a 442lb Black Sea Bass off La Jolla. I wish someone would find that article and put it in this archive.

I saw my first giant sea bass yesterday and I was stunned by how huge they are, you can’t get the same sense from a video

Sarcastic “fringehead”?? Is this a mistake, or another all too common attempt to change language? It’s a sarcastic finger head for obvious reasons.🖕🏻

Did this for 5 year's. Great job until you have a crappy dive tender that falls asleep while you are working 5 hour's under water and doesn't fill your air compressor with gas.😠

Wow, great variety. Plenty of identification challenges in this one. Are you sure there no Cabezon in the mix? Like the first one after the opening Leopard Shark?

Great video! How do you equalize with the helmet? What is the style at 2:05, is is dry inside or is it like a big face mask? Thanks.

Wow! Awesome variety and video work. Nice editing too, only quality footage. Not sure I've seen Striped Seaperch or Rainbow Seaperch in a CA dive video, and I've watched a lot. Should have a lot more likes. Oh yeah, add Spotfin Surfperch to the list.

Wow!!! I've watched hours of California dive videos. I'm into fish ID as a snorkeler/freediver mostly at the Channel Islands where I get out a few times each year. I can't imagine how many dives you must have made to get so much good footage, but it's as good as I've seen both for quality and variety. The narration is great but I muted for most due to the background music which, to me, is annoying. There is no music that complements a nature video. I'm guessing few people realize how much hard work, and fun, went into this production. I hope you continue to produce such excellent content. :)

Are you sure that the Rainbow Seaperch is not a Black Seaperch? Sure looks like it to me. In either case, well done but IDs need to be accurate. One minor issue; it would be helpful to maintain the name of the species on screen while showing the field marks.

Great work. quality, format, info all firing ...I'd just like to see a more comprehensive version, including some of the more difficult ID problems. Oh I see that you have more ID vids. I'll check those out. Keep up the great work.

This was GREAT! Thank you so very much. I am thinking of moving to CA and I am trying to learn what the different fish look like as I spearfish. This was not only enjoyable to watch but helpful for me to see what they look like. I really hope you do other videos like this. Again thank you.

Don't go to College of overspending , When I was diving back in the day , The commercial diving company I was working for , ran out of tenders , so they hired some deckhands off the streets to help us , and they got to see for free how we operate and they got paid too , That's how you get into the business for free
