Yaeji is a fantastic singer/electronic producer in her own right! I really recommend her album With a Hammer -- it's a chiller vibe compared to Charli, but it's still plenty danceable and catchy, and has a lot of unique production choices. (She was also crazy live when I saw her last year -- a lot less chill in a good way!)
@ahaziahjoshua13972 сағат бұрын
Her voice also just sounds like that! She has amazing vocal control. Its also her scream in the background of Tears with Charli (they sampled her screaming to some ducks). She truly is such a special talent.

Great reaction! :) I discovered Caroline Polachek thru recommendation as well because they’re not the usual chart toppers that aims to do that whole commercial shebang, instead the album challenges listeners musically with a lot of nuances in production and songwriting (for example not adhering to a standard pop song structure, at times over the top key changes, and time signatures other than 4/4, and her signature yodelling or vocal flipping technique that most people will think is autotune) that set her from a lot of the mainstream artists apart. In other words, her music are for music theory nerds (like me) so it’s more in the niche category :)I also stumbled upon her music via Charli‘s last album Crash and I’m obsessed with her music, I really appreciate how Charli and a lot of her collaborators built up such a lively ecosystem in music around her that allows artists to support each other in pioneering the musical landscape and a lot more good artists got more recognition for their music thru charli

id recommend 2 artists, bjork and arca. bjork is the blueprint for people like Caroline and charli imo. bjork combines the crazy beats of charli with the operatic voice of Caroline 😮💨 and arca is just like opening up a crazy unknown world of sound

and theres one special thing about caroline that is she samples her own songs. you can hear like 3-4 songs collide in the 10-minute track “the gate extended mix” she released after pang. highly recommended!!!

in fact she did that harder between songs across her sophomore which is freaking crazy

I’m sure others have told you but Caroline was half of the band Chairlift in the 2000s/2010s before going solo. You might recognize their song “Bruises” from an old iPod commercial. She’s also had several other side projects. She’s a prolific musician and she’s been around a long time. That’s partly why this “debut album” is so polished and amazing out of the gate. The other reason is because she’s an insanely talented, visionary, perfectionist 😆
