Hi, lovely playing once again. I have been learning it since the first time I have heard you play it so nicely. I have a litlle question to my fellow guitar players: what's happening at 2:45 is it a trills, I don't understand it's just so smooth (on my tab I have 7-5-7-5 for this part for the first string, but it quite doesn't ring the same). If any one pass by thank you for your help, and anyway happy playing all

Thanks for your comment. You might notice that the hammer on and pull off is on top of a three-string chord. I slightly arpeggiate the chord to give it a more ringing sound. Give it a try. Cheers, Rob.

@@wllbh I originally learned the Pujol version, then learned from a facsimile of the original Narváez version. But many years have gone by since I last looked at a score, and I just play what comes to mind. It might have a bit of both versions in there. That’s what happens when you reach 65!

October 2024: Just discovered this and enjoyed it immensely. As a complete and absolute beginner to classical guitar I have wanted a good comparison between playing with and without nails. There is another CG artist who plays with nails and who has also covered Sagreras Book 2 on KZbin. I loaded up this video in one tab of my browser and also loaded his video into another tab,. I then played #3 from your video and the same part from his video and did this for each part , to see how each sounded. The result was very interesting for me. Both of you are excellent players, and both videos seemed to be very well recorded. I truly enjoyed both and the beauty of the pieces came through in both, and both were very engaging. But there was definitely a difference in tone and sound. Your "no nails" playing reminded me of the difference in my hifi system after I made the switch to a tube amplifier. The music was the same, but the tubes added a warmth and intimacy to the sound that I personally found to be more enjoyable. This is a very subjective thing and in no way suggests that one is superior to the other. My addition of tubes to my hifi system was for me and me alone. I can and do enjoy listening to music on systems that do not have tubes, but for my own personal taste, I choose tube, In the same way, although this little experiment of mine is not perfect, I am choosing to start my classical guitar learning with no nails because that sound really does appeal to me. This was interesting, because i could see how it would be possible for someone else to do the exact same little test and reach the opposite conclusion. It really does come down to personal taste!
@RobMacKillop127 күн бұрын
Yes, it does. I'm glad you came to that conclusion.

Its nice to hear a maetro with no nails play. Classical guitar music would be taken up more if the insistence to nails, by a lot of tutors, is dropped. Some of the reasons i gave up as a kid was that long nails on the right hand attracted unwanted playground attention and they naturally got broke playing out, especially basketball. Instead of hearing how disadvantaged my hand positions were because of insufficient nails, maybe it wouldve been better encouraging actual playing. Any way, 30+ years later, Covid lockdown made me pick up the guitar again and am enjoying playing, with no nails. Also, without the constant 'tabs are cheating', tabs have allowed me to learn pieces way past the level of my notation reading abilities. I just have to check-in with the musicians playing the piece to work out how to get the 'sound'. A disadvantage of most tabs is that they generally dont have the same detail of info as classical notation...
