Vibrato can be way overdone and it has. Not every note needs to be vibratoed. To my ears intonation sounds better and vibrato is the icing on the cake.

I’m just so curious how the violinists play without shoulder rest holds their violin😂 especially their left hand. Some say the weight of the violin is placed on the thumb, but I feel like impossible. When I hold without shoulder rest, only the bottom of my index finger is supporting it Really headache
@AlbertoRegueraviolin5 ай бұрын
I think there is not a single way to hold the violin without shoulder rest wich works for everyone...but I do think that balance with the instrument is priority. "Balance" may sound ambiguous but for me it has to do more with the sensation of holding the violin in the collarbone area without any sensation of tension in the neck and shoulders generated by that imbalance. That said, there are those who complement the grip more with the thumb and base of the index finger of the left hand, and those who place more responsibility on a slight grip with the chin. Obviously this is very general, each case has its subtleties.

This wonderful series should be repeated on a major TV network. In this episode briefly we hear the wonderful contralto Norma Procter. Yehudi Menhuin chose the best musicians of his time to collaborate in the production and the programme does this great artist full credit.

N' oubliez pas le mouvement lent du concerto de Beethoven par Ivry Gitlis enregistré sur scène en 1995 (il avait 73 ans..) et son vibrato "multi technique" exceptionnel et toute beauté...comme sur tous ses enregistrements..

It is actually very simple. All depends on the angle the last joint of the finger has relativ to the fingerboard when it hits the string. If it arrives in a very flat angle, it can only vibrato upwards. If it arrives at an angle of more than 90%, it will vibrate downwards. At 90% it will oscillate equally in both directions.

Grumiaux Bach recording is amazing, and underrated. Menuhin was so consistent and flexible. Oistrakh breathes so wonderfully with his bow.

En mi opinión personal es el Violinista más completo que ha existido ; su Magistral técnica ; unido a su brillante sonido y fraseo lo hace ser por siempre un VIOLINISTA EXCEPCIONAL .
@literatura-violintrivium-q995210 ай бұрын
@Trava567 ай бұрын
@@literatura-violintrivium-q9952 For me Oistrakh had it all. The most perfect technique, without showing off. Deep understanding of the music. Humility. One of the few russians of his time that could play Mozart with finesse. But so many others were great. Heifetz, Milstein, Kogan, Grumiaux. The young Stern and also the young Menuhin. When I was young, I just loved Oistrakh and Grumiaux. As I grow older so many others are my favourites. It depends on the music and style. Today, many are so good, but I always return to listening to the older generation. Who remains your hero is a personal and emotional thing. Hard to explain.some just speak to your heart more.

Interesting how many of the great violinists often vibrate sharp of the note (above it) as well as below it, something most of us are taught not to do, yet I feel it makes the vibrato sound more intense and interesting when they do this.

Oistrakh is of course, divine. But we should also mention the pianist here and his wonderfully musical playing, perfectly partnering Oistrakh in this Grand Duo. I may be mistaken, but I think he is the father of the legendary pianist Boris Petrushansky, laureate at the Leeds and Casagrande competitions, and the most sought after piano professor at the Imola Piano Academy in Italy.
