I recently got late nite Mallets (the more silent version) and they were pretty silent. However not as silent as the mallets I made myself a few years ago. These were just a stick, with a cut up spnge at the end, losely wrapped with very fluffy yarn. The high registers were basically impossible to hear with these, but the problem was that I didnt put anything in for weight and the sticks werent proper mallet handles. Still, my walls are so thin that even with silent mallets, my neighbors still hear me laying, its insane. So while I am a bit louder then before now, the feelingof playing is so much better!

I attended the seminar many years ago and it was absolutely amazing. I still utilize the concepts in my playing and teaching every single day. Highly recommended, and great video.

What a great video. This should be required for every student. I preached this for years but Leigh has made it simple!

I remember, after first hearing Leigh Howard Stevens talk about this concept, I tried to take it a step further by learning a piece during a plane flight entirely by mental imagery. It was a relatively short and repetitive piece ("2. Downhill" from "Gordon's Bicycle" by Kevin Bobo), but it still took nearly the entire 2 hour flight before I felt that I could successfully imagine the entire piece. The next day when I stepped to the marimba, I played the entire piece with maybe 2 or 3 missed bars. I was literally shocked. It was the closest I've ever felt to being a super saiyan lol. It was even easier with an actual marimba. Thanks, Leigh!

They also act as the “confirming instrument rattles” mallets

Okay...so...everyone's just going to act like those trills in the beginning weren't among the most impressive and musically satisfying thing we've heard on a marimba? Lol

The free flight is what also piano actions use: there is no controllable contact between key and hammer at the moment the hammer hits the strings.
