I am extremely impressed with them. However the old man there, is the odd one out. I give him just one finger. His attitude is really smpah. He will try to instigate the youngers against the customers both inside the salon as well as at the waiting area. Every youngster there will know which baldy I am referring to. Even during fasting month he solicits trouble. Just for kicks he will spray water / mist at unsuspecting paying customers face from a distance.

I’m malay & my hub is local chinese muslim convert. We hv 3 kids. Was not easy to make decision bt we let our kids take Chinese as mother tongue subj in school ‘cos work-wise it’s more beneficial. BUT we make sure they learn Malay as well. We made them take malay enrichment classes outside school. My kids also had tuition classes for chinese & malay. Ya, stressful for parents financially but we were tinkin of longterm. On paper my kids identify as chinese ‘cos ‘follow father’ for admin purposes. But they know they are MIX chinese+malay becos that’s their reality. Despite the challenges in a multiracial marriage, actually some things are straightforward-what’s ur child’s race? MIX race. Because that’s what it is what. Teach the kids at least 2 languages of wateva mix the parents are of. Mum mly dad chn? Learn both lor. Mayb one as mother tongue in school & the other learn from outside classes. Remembr to consider economical factors too. In S’pore, though national lang is malay, it’s gd to know chinese so that jobhunt wud be easier. It makes sense to learn chn but make sure learn malay also, since the kids hv mly blood too. Nothing wrong with learning foreign language, but no point knowing foreign lang but dono the language of the parents.
