We are dealing with this same issue all over the United States with out of country companies trying to enforce automation in the USA. This will destroy all longshoreman jobs and have a major impact on the the blue collar working man. I have been a longshoreman for 20 years and have been through it all. On the east coast we are trying to negotiate our new contract and are trying our best to keep automation out of any union operated ports. This will be a tough battle. I just wish that this country and its politics would see what automation would do to this country. Absolutely ruin it. Also I don’t care what anyone says or what other ports numbers are with automation in there terminals. A experienced operator operating the crane/truck/rtg/top loader etc…. Will always do better numbers then a computer.

I wasn't really paying much attention, thinking about something else, and I was thinking how smooth those cranes were turning, and how I had never seen them able to go other directions, and then I noticed the Mamoet name and I realized what I was watching! Hello? The truck (lift) always has the right of way in the yard. Lorry was supposed to yield. Besides, if you don't drive with load in the air you can't see where you are going. Believe me. I drive a Konecranes 20"-45" container reach stacker. Much worse could have happened though. They got off cheap.
@Cranedaddytiktok

That’s just a part of what we do. We are constantly moving loads around the truck. Driver was definitely driving too fast following the speed limit with a prevented this accident.

That driver of the truck should be banned from that port.. and the forklift drìver i dont know their policy on merging into traffic but i was taught to always enter traffic in reverse so you can see and maneuver better
@peterlattimore6013
@peterlattimore6013 7 күн бұрын
Sometimes you can't reverse back or eventually you'll need to drive forward anyway. In some instances reverse is as dangerous as forward because you need eyes in both directions. But yes, reverse if you're on a forklift with a load at ground level, but containers are a different story, hence the height.

Another loser union trying to bilk more people along the way, jacking up the cost and wait times for the average American consumer. I can't wait for automation to take over the shipping industry, especially at American ports so these whiners shut up for good.

Sounds like you’re not part of any union which is unfortunate because automation and AI is going to clearly take over your job before it does ours. It’s gonna be sad for a lot of Americans over the next five years but our union fight for our how about you
