Is this the so called "Baby Deltic" as it appears there are several classes that look like deltics with the same body design & how does one distinguish these deltic look alikes from the real thing?
@gb.railfan
@gb.railfan 26 күн бұрын
No the Class 37 is an English Electric Type 3, the "Baby Deltics" were BR Class 23, English Electric Type 2. They looked a lot like the class 37 but a bit squashed, and had a single Napier engine of which the Class 55 (Deltic - English Electric Type 4) had 2, producing 3300hp.

10 out of 10, for this brilliantly well-filmed members day outing at the one & only wensleydale railway out there..... I still hope they'll restore/re-open the rest of the line up the dale to redmire, as well as to the west of northallerton one day. x

@@gb.railfan .... I myself still hope the rest of the wonderfully spectacular wensleydale railway does re-open all the way to redmire, and also to the west of northallerton, where I do believe there's a viaduct along that stretch of line between ainderby & northallerton out there,

What a shame this line can’t be reopened for passenger trains. Then you have large towns like Ripon & Richmond, formerly on a network to the ECML, and now without a railway. Anyway, what a great treat this must have been for you.

Did you check what timetable was running that day cause if you want to ride on a steam train it needs to be on a day with a certain timetable. If you were promised a steam train when you booked and got a pacer then you have a right to complain

Why is it called a light engine by itself? Also do you know why some locomotives like the class 91 can do 125mph (or 110 pulling backwards) but only 75mph as a light engine?
@gb.railfan
@gb.railfan 7 ай бұрын
It just means a locomotive without a train load behind it, hence light!
@Ro99
@Ro99 7 ай бұрын
@@gb.railfan oh that would make sense. How come they can’t go as fast as with a load though? Surely it should be the opposite?
@that1giox
@that1giox 7 ай бұрын
I don't know exactly why this restriction is in place but if I had to give a good guess it would be due to traction and weight, if you have more weight there is a lesser chance for derailment, therefore light locos are restricted.
@Ro99
@Ro99 7 ай бұрын
@@that1giox oh so it’s safety makes sense. Wouldn’t be ideal if a train went flying off a curve at 110mph. I don’t understand why the blunt end first it restricted to 110 not 125 though?
