I just discovered this last night and am totally blown away. You've managed to capture something that no one else (that I've seen) has been able to capture. I've been trying to learn this song for months. I've spent that time searching for a cover that played the right hand strumming pattern the way it sounds on the album. Though I've found some great sounding covers out there, yours is the first that seems to have truly nailed that very elusive quality in the right hand. I know it's been years since you posted this, but would you be willing to share in detail your thought process on the right hand? Because the video quality is choppy, it's hard to see which fingers are doing what. I know you're playing the alternating bass notes with your thumb. For a lot of Elliot Smith songs, I use the fleshy part of my thumb for the downstrokes and the fleshy part of my index or middle finger for the upstrokes, but I'm wondering if you are using the nail on your index finger for the downstrokes on this song or just the fleshy part of your thumb? Any input from you would be immensely appreciated!!!

Very intelligent , super talented, friend of mine. We drifted apart over the last few years. I distanced myself from him. We had our differences. I dont regret my decision as life happens But I do regret how we broke it off. Life is short, and if this isnt a reminder than idk what is. Its also ironic how the song i most enjoyed from him was one which speaks to this whole situation. I am sharing this wonderful song he made so that people can remember him. He was an avid singer songwriter and one of the closest people i had ever known. I cant change the past or the outcome of this. But I can aknowledge his qualities. Theres not really much else to say but that regardless of our differences, i loved him as a brother and a friend. I have made peace with this and I know that he was strong enough to do the same.
