You know what, I like this at a faster tempo honestly
@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans76482 жыл бұрын
I'd go for a more steady tempo (it's ragtime, not rubato) but not all that much faster. A good andante. It's not a toccata either.
@angus79772 жыл бұрын
I enjoy it both fast and slow, depending on the vibes of the day. if it's fast, you get bombarded with the harmonies, which is a great sound in its own right, but sometimes the mood calls for basking in them instead, especially with such a beautiful piece like this.

Nice performance! The score on IMSLP has a date of 1842 so Rubinstein must have been 12 or 13 when he wrote this. Pretty amazing!

This is a rag, why play it like it's a romantic piece? There's no need to slow down or accelerate.
@7962michel5 жыл бұрын
Only a joke. Here, it is not a question of maintaining the tempo of the ragtime it is just a parody of the parody, in French we say "l'arroseur arrosé" so we return to a classical piece ... Only a joke. In a world as sad as ours, we have to have fun ! Have a nice day. Michel

@7962michel5 жыл бұрын

Just play the rag at a steady tempo throughout. Pushing and pulling the tempo like that doesn't work in ragtime. Neither do the cutesy articulations.

Okay I did some digging, it seems Gustav Holst wrote this in 1910. Percy Grainger wrote his version in 1818.

Help! I thought Percy Grainger wrote this? Now I read that Holst wrote it. Is it ozzy or English ? ;-)

The Maestro himself could not fault this careful, sensitive interpretation, sorry for Britain (some of them) unforturtunately. I am European FIRST
@jaywalker12332 жыл бұрын
@George Baker We in Britain are all European too - just consider our shared history! But wonderful music is wonderful music - it knows no bounds and I see no place for political point scoring. William Walton was a significant composer in England, and particularly during the terrible European war when this important film, Henry V, was made. It should be enjoyed and understood for what it is and for what it means within that film and for what it meant to those for whom it was made

@7962michel You make a good point, but for me, there is not enough haste/précipitation in this interpretation.
@7962michel13 жыл бұрын
@4candles13 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting Spiegelberg's version. Unfortunately, I think his tempo is too slow and some of the drama, fire and passion of the music is lost in the performance. The string writing is nice and clear in this recording, but the piano is a little far back for my liking. It's good to have another interpretation of this great piece in the public domain though, so thanks again!
