Great Sermon Topic....and this is so hard to put into practice, yet so freeing. Thanks Tullian!

The reason Tullian gets marked as a preacher of "cheap grace" is because his teaching forces you to remove every imperative from the Bible. This is a new form of marcianism. Where as the old form got rid of the old testament, this new form is able to get rid of every command in the Bible under the pretense that it's impossible to do what the Bible calls you to do. Jesus ends his Sermon on the mount by calling the person who hears and puts Jesus words into practice a wise person... ("Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.) (Mt 7:24) Tullians view of the Sermon on the Mount has to view that person as a fool for even thinking he can put Jesus words into practice. There are better ways of reading and understanding the Sermon on the Mount. This aint it folks.

So you felt the need to jump on a soapbox here because…??? If you don’t agree with what he says, then stop listening to him, but noooo… and here we are! 😂😂😂

❤I hear what you're saying. How does it go for you, as you work hard at perfection? Are you grateful for the Cross when you try to keep the 10? I sure am. I think that's the point.

@@gerryguevara In the same way you felt the need to respond to my comment. I could respond to you in the same way... "If you don't like what I said, than ignore the comment, and yet, here we are." I felt the need to comment because I find his teaching ignores the ethical implications of Jesus' words by chalking it up to "we can't do it, so don't try. Jesus explicitly warns against such a posture in the Sermon on the Mount. And the one reference he makes to Lloyd-Jones is completely taking him out of context. Now if you want to respond to the substance of the critique, then I would gladly welcome that. If you are just going to attack me for drawing attention to my fault with the sermon, than you're doing no different than what I did.

The word “marcianism’’ doesn’t exist. Looked it up. Did find this in Webster’s dictionary: Marcionism noun Mar·cion·ism ˈmär-shə-ˌni-zəm -sē-ə-, -shē-ə- : the doctrinal system of a sect of the second and third centuries a.d. accepting some parts of the New Testament but denying Christ's corporality and humanity and condemning the Creator God of the Old Testament which in no way fits Tullian because he believes all the things Marcionism denies.

Christians are never worse than when they believe they are protecting God. What a great quote! Yes, some of the nastiest, meanest things ever spoken or acted upon have been done by people believing that very thing! Whether it’s in social media or the Salem witch trials , it fits! Thank you!!!

Pastor what do you think about those who define grace as Divine enablement or divine empowerment? I believe that Grace is actually defined as unearned favor from god. When we say that his grace is defined as empowerment, doesn't it put the spotlight back on us and our performance? Perhaps intentionally by some people?

This sermon series was written for me. I am the outsider you speak about. I’m in the UK and sadly feel quite isolated from other Christians. I’ve never found a church environment where I feel comfortable. God bless you and thank you Tullian.

Thank you Stacie for giving us this message. Jam-packed with both blatant and subtle things to consider. I stumble over so many little things and smash into so many big walls. A labyrinth of my own making... I'm lost in a loop of determination and acedia and go nowhere. I need mental motivation and physical muscles to dig out of this pit, but i can't even find the shovel under all this mess... So I bury myself in books and sink deeper into my messy morass. I don't even know how to find any 12 step programs in this tiny Ozark location. Thank God for you and Tullian and The Sanctuary on-line.

Yes he has, he even spilled his guts about the whole thing in his book , CARNAGE AND GRACE, CONFESSIONS OF AN ADULTEROUS HEART, published this year. I have read it and is soul-scrapingly honest in his wrongs and in his sorrow for his guilt. He has shared more in some of his recent messages of how his whole family is now at peace and accepted his apology for wrecking the family. They live in the same town now and his children all have a great relationship with him and his now wife Stacy and her children. He has now started The Sanctuary which he calls ‘a recovery place masquerading as a church.’ I have been listening to his messages for almost a year now on KZbin and have learned so very much about the love and grace of God. Hope that answers your question.

I must at least say thanks for your message Tullian . I needed that ! I would like to digress (I heard and saved your first series on the Ten Commandments years ago. ), but I’d need to write a very lengthy essay. Thanks again for “hanging in “ or maybe I should just thank the Lord.

This was so good, I’m going to have to listen to it again soon. About midway through when you were talking about hearing ministers who preach more good works, more righteousness, more etc. Suddenly in my mind, I could see Billy Idol singing, ‘In the morning prayer, he cried more more more, with the steeple bell he cried more more more….’’ And I’m dying laughing cause we have all heard it soooooo much, the irony hit me right in the funny bone. 😂 That quote by Martin Luther put the nail in coffin of WORKS, and opened the widows of GRACE.

I love your messages of God’s incredible grace and not on works! I Just wanted to say though that I don’t believe as Christians we should see ourselves as sinners anymore. We died and we have a new heart, a new mind, we are new creatures! Yes Saints still sin but that doesn’t make them a sinner just as sinners or non believers do good and that doesn’t make them saints! The more we focus on God’s love and grace and see ourselves in faith as He sees us righteous and one who cannot sin we will see His life manifest more and more throughout experientially! Martin Luther also said we are like snow covered dung! Sorry but that view is not how God wants us to view ourselves!
