Great video. I just restored an old, abused reel I had long given up on :) mine is the same as this but doesn’t seem to have the internal brakes. Is it possible to retrofit them?

Thanks for these 5600C4 videos, Clayton. I cleaned 2 and they now work great. I have a question......when I removed the left side plate, I only had 2 brake items sticking out, Your video showed about 6......????

Clayton just watched your video, and it was very helpful in cleaning my reel. Question for you: I want to order some of those c-clips, what size are they for the 5600.

Wait. Where is the black plastic spool axel 'positioner' and is it important? What does it do? Please reply. Thanks

Thanks for the video… I got this side done. Now for the other side tomorrow… For some reason when I put the side cover back on it was super tight though. The spool free spins really easy but when I reel it, it’s tight. Maybe it’s because I had the reel side submerged in water or something when I was cleaning it.

Nice job as far as it went but you failed the most important issues. That is the Thumb Bar Spool Release. The major problem I have with these reels are the thumb bar not releasing the spool or not reengaging the spool when you start to reel. The mechanism inside gets out of alignment and it is a bugger to get it working properly. Thanks.

When I reel my abu Garcia 5600 c4 it slips. I have to have the drag all the way tight. Can you tell me what I did wrong?
@jasonmustanggts3 жыл бұрын
I believe what you are calling the retainer clip under the handle. Is on upside down. I really enjoyed your video and used it to help me pull mine apart and clean it. Mine has never been pulled apart I brought it brand new and that clip was the opposite side up when I took the handle off. I think it's designed to put some reason on the star drag handle as it is loosened.

I meant tension on the star drag handle as it is loosened.

What mm is the E clip?
@oinc73203 жыл бұрын
Couldn’t agree with you more about not cutting off that ridge off on the cog. I don’t like the designer the cog, pain to clean, and I don’t especially like Abu’s silent, no documentation, on how to pull it, but the design does guarantee a critical part has no slop movement by clipping itself in on the post. Adding an E clip would seem to me to do just that, which is what some people do, I would expect ABU to have used an E clip if not for some good reason. I would only use an E clip it if and only if going to a dual bearing clog where the tolerable is in the bearing spinning and not that post.

Is it easier to pull the spool shaft from the side plate, if you loosen, backoff, the spool tension knob a bit first? Pulling the cog, how about a heavy mono, tied loop, put over and under the cog, that U-s up on both sides to the post, i.e. slip the loop on both sides of the post against it, put a screwdriver shaft through two top loop handles, to help pull equally str8 up off the post? Your one side loop, puts a twist force on the shaft as the cog itself is being used as a lever, much like a screwdriver under it, one side, prying up?

Thanks for posting. Some masking tape on the spool will keep the line from getting loose. Why bother putting the spool back, if you are going to remove the other side for service? Nice tip about removing the plastic reel.

Clay could you kindly tell me where the 4th ball bearing is? Abu's website says "4 ball bearings plus 1 roller bearing" but in my reel (exact same as yours) I only have 2 on the spool and 1 on the worm gear. I emailed Abu and they told me "there's one pressed into the side plate on the handle side" but mine does not. Do you have this 4th ball bearing? It's driving me crazy!

Hi How do you get the axle out? even with the tension knob loose axel is stuck!
@claytondavis29474 жыл бұрын
Take the tension or knob completely off and there will be a little round black clip in there. Be careful removing this as they tend to break easily.

You can buy parts from dadsoletackle.com I just bought couple of abu ambassadeur C3 from them last week and couple time before that

Why doesn't that have an axial clip? I was looking at the schematics and the 5600C4 has one. I was trying to watch this video to see which way it goes on, but you don't have one, and if it's in the cap you have to put it on the spool shaft with the notches correct

When the drag is all the way tight on this reel should you be able to pull any line out by hand? If not, what should I do to fix this?

Put carbon tex drag washers in you can find them on eBay

Also tightening down on the star drag wears the cup shaped compression springs and they will lose the ability to have a good drag so check them and see if they have their shape and flattened out if they are bad change them out... you can get them from Abu.com

does the popping off the plastic gear really make that much difference for the performance enhancement you get (after you add oil post...)? does it noticeably cast better? Also - will that plastic gear begin to wobble over time because it's not attached permanently ...should you use a C-clip for insurance? thank you for the vid btw.
@bsdgffishtuna51864 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video - but how do you stop the "clacking" of the cog after you put it back together??...it's nicer when it's quiet....that's how it was originally...thank you
@claytondavis29474 жыл бұрын
Just be sure you are pushing it back on all the way. You're going to get a little more noise out of it with an oil because it is a lot slicker. Try using a thicker oil to quiet it down.

*I have the 7ft medium duty rod. I have used it many times and it has held up well. This rod is a great rod for the price, it is pretty sensitive, and much stronger than it looks like it would be. I have caught a 12lb striper hybred as well as quite a few in the 5-7lb range, and never had a fear it was about to break.*

Awesome video, Thank you! I followed both the left and right side, and Im still having an issue with the reel. Basically, I took it fishing down in Freeport, and while wading, I submerged the reel for a couple minutes trying to un-tangle live bait lines I'd tied on. Now when I push the thumb release the reel will let me cast it but when I start turning the crank, it doesn't engage to spin. I followed these directions to a "T", but after reassembly the thumb mechanism still doesn't pop back up when I start reeling in. Any suggestions?
