Did you guys consider what mash bill it could be? Cole seemed to assume it was the Handy/Sazerac mash bill. I am curious because the eht bib rye is Barton rye not BT. That is why i felt the 1792 full proof might make a nice entry. Anyway, do you think it drank closer to handy (51%ish rye) or the eht rye (95% rye).
@yourdrinkingbuddy10 күн бұрын
Evidence: Buffalo Trace website says the EHT bib rye is a different mash bill and 95/5. Tour guide says the ONLY make 4 mash bills on site unless it is for expiramental release (the 4 are low rye, higher rye, wheated and rye). The eht bib rye has bartons DSP number on the bottle (KY-12).

I wonder if the extra time of aging in French Oak develops a more balanced palette where more fruitiness comes out with age vs predominant floral character from shorter finishing…
@chillfiltered18 күн бұрын
My thought is that it's all about the charred bit. I can't imagine too many French oak finishing barrels are charred. Could be wrong though.

Thanks for reviewing Rac Rye 2! The components you named are correct. There was straight, toasted (aged, not finished), and Mizunara finished. Those three were blended then put back into Mizunara for additional marrying time. Cheers!

Just finished listening to the podcast, I agree Nick is an awesome guest, he's down to earth and has a wealth of information. Enjoy listening to him and learning more about whiskey history and his brand Found North. I was lucky enough to win a bottle this first lottery and will pop it open as soon as it arrives! I have a double barrel Found North from Bitters & Bottle but haven't opened that yet. Heard you guys mentioning your first Barrel Pick, congratulations can't believe you guys went 6 years without a pick, maybe its perfect timing though, because what better company to work with for your first pick than Found North; please let me know how I can go about picking up a bottle once thats ready. Thanks again for another amazing episode wish you guys much success and also Nick and the team at Found North look forward to trying out Batch 010 once it arrives! Cheers!

Thanks @josesanchez5920! Yeah, Nick is so easy to talk to and it's always a fun time. Congrats on the lottery win! I think you'll like it. We're stoked to pick a barrel, and yeah, we basically had it in mind, our first barrel pick would be with a banger of a whiskey. So we're excited for what's to come. Cheers! - Cole

The reason Canongate 14 can't be called a Bourbon is because the Distillery in Bardstown, KY for whatever reason put the distillate in new American oak barrels at an entry proof of 127, Bourbon by law has a max entry proof of 125.
@chillfiltered2 ай бұрын
Interesting! I'm curious, how did you find this out about the barrel entry proof?
@josesanchez59202 ай бұрын
@@chillfiltered Well I just purchased a bottle from one of my go to spots and was excited to see what I can find about this bottle online. I came across a review from "Whiskeyfellow" who had a media sample from The Perfect Fith and wrote a review back in May 2024 and it stated the reason its not a bourbon was because the entry proof was 127. In another article I read by Whiskey Advocate they wrote that the max entry point of bourbon is 62.5% ABV and the mere fact that this barrel was aged in the colder climate of Scotland for 11 years the ABV would have dropped much lower than 62.5% so when the team discovered the ABV to be almost 2% higher at 64.4% ABV when bottled they deduced that the barrel entry must have been higher than the legal 62.5% ABV entry for bourbon. After reading both articles that made total sense to me. I'm excited to have been able to pick up a bottle when only 232 were released from a single barrel. I also came across your KZbin video,, and agree that this bottle has a fun story with the whole born in Kentucky aged 3 years there and then bottled in Scotland after spending 11 years in Scotland. I've been subscribed to the podcast since earlier this year but didn't realize you guys had a KZbin channel, so I'll be checking you guys more often on here, keep up the great work with the podcast.

I turned to online and came across a review by 'Whiskey Fellow" who had a media sample from earlier this year and he mentioned it wasn't bourbon because the entry proof was 127. I also came across another article by Whiskey Advocate and they mentioned the legal entry proof of bourbon is 62.5% ABV and since it was aged 11 years in a cool climate the ABV would have been lower, since it was bottled at 64.4% ABV almost 2% higher than 62.5%, the team deduced it must of have had an entry higher than the legal requirement. I also went back to Chill Filter episode 285 and Karl Schoen mentioned he was careful not to lable it a bourbon because of this.
