I hope you raised a complaint about that random pink haired woman who was stalking you in the Scottish countryside. It is disgraceful that travellers such as yourself should have to deal with such intimidation. The way she kept smiling into the camera just intensified your obvious fear! In all seriousness I just came across this video and it is fantastic. What a journey you undertook and it was a wonderful upload. Many many thanks

Best LEJOG I've ever come across (cycling or walking): great presentation, great music, and for me the key element is the relaxed manner in which the walk is undertaken - a meander though Britain. Thank you!

Amazing! Your LeJog videos inspired my partner and I to plan out a similar hike, unfortunately covid hit and she (being Canadian) couldn't make it over so we settled for a loop of Derbyshire. I'm so glad you chose the Peak District to do this 😀 I take it you visited the pubs in and around Birchover?

Sure have. Beautiful area. Winster was a postcard perfect village. I’m almost halfway done with this hike. I’m posting lots of pics on my Instagram if you want to follow. Bucolic_aholic. You and your partner make it out! Peak District is great. That’s for the kind comment.

A digital Explorer OS Map. Most people use the OS App. I used a program called Memory Maps. With either app you can access the maps offline. Even when there's no signal, you should be able to get a GPS reading.

@kevinmorriss

A jacket! I hiked in the summer. I've got to imagine that the dead of winter is a whole different proposition. I think the best thing you can take is the OS Explorer Map. You can get a cheap monthly subscription through the OS app. Other than that, I listed what I took on my blog. Good luck! bucolicaholic.com/2018/12/07/the-walkers-guide-to-lejog/

Have you thought about writing the Lejog guide to pubs and beer?
@kevinmorriss
@kevinmorriss 3 жыл бұрын
That would be an absolute dream to research and produce. My route through the south was literally dictated by my desire to hit as many former CAMRA Pubs of the Year as possible. My fondest memories of the walk involve pubs. Making friends, discovering something forgotten, getting pissed after walking 30 miles, watching the world cup matches, the locals, the outsiders. Everything. The rural English pub is perhaps the biggest draw for my interest in hiking in the UK. There's just nothing like it anywhere else. And real ale is the hiker's nectar. Nothing beats local fresh real ale. It is something we cannot get right in the states. Unfortunately, the "choose your own adventure" nature of LeJog makes developing a guide difficult. Plus, I'm not sure what an American's opinion of pubs is really worth. If we get a reprieve from Covid mid-summer, I plan to walk to every single pub in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It should take about a month to cover the 90+ pubs in the legal bounds of the park.
@andyc3088
@andyc3088 3 жыл бұрын
I did my lejog just before you finishing on the 10th of June 2018, i could do a guide to the pubs with the best coke, or a guide on how to operate showers or which one had the best bacon and eggs. I'm in training to do the Lejog again this year. But i think an American view on English pubs would go down very well.

Great video .... bit confused where you got "britains highest waterfall " though its in scotland 🤔🤔
@kevinmorriss
@kevinmorriss 3 жыл бұрын
The waterfall I was referring to was called High Force. I just looked it up, wikipedia starts: "Despite popular belief that it is the highest waterfall in England...others have a longer fall" Looks like I took the local claims a little too seriously (claims I could swear were made in reference to the whole UK). The article does go on to state: "However, High Force does have the largest volume of water falling over an unbroken drop when in full spate..." but that doesn't quite have to the same ring. So, I sit corrected. Another foreigner too willing to believe anything!
