Great Documentary. Proudly a kom/Bakweri girl. I have suffered hate speech particularly during my university days, in relation to my body size and height. Now when i look back i just laugh. Becuase i am chubbier now than before. Let us really try to spread love and positive words.

Hate speech is somehow a part of some people’s upbringing tbh and it’s hard to change them
@PechMedia7 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You're right, hate speech can sometimes stem from deeply ingrained beliefs or upbringing. But do you think that makes it impossible to unlearn? What role do you think education and awareness can play in changing such mindsets? How can we, as a society, create an environment where people feel empowered to challenge and reject these harmful narratives?
@Mark_M0076 күн бұрын
@ Thank you for the thoughtful response. I believe unlearning hate is absolutely possible, though it takes time, effort, and often a shift in perspective. Education plays a crucial role in exposing individuals to diverse viewpoints and challenging stereotypes. Awareness can help people recognize harmful narratives and break free from them. As a society, we can foster empathy, promote open dialogue, and create safe spaces where people feel supported in questioning and rejecting such beliefs. Change is a collective effort.

As a Bamenda person, I'm delighted to hear that we're finally speaking out against the hate speech that has been unfairly labeled against us for far too long. It's truly time for us to put an end to hate speech. Great job guys 💪

Having to focus on something that’s almost overlooked and counts for whether an individual hides from society or becomes a villain, and why people end up acting or reacting in a certain way today is definitely commendable.

I like how inclusive video is. Person's with disabilities and perpetrators and need to watch this. I like how you brought vioces from different young people. I didn't know how to report a hateful post now I do and truly what the legal practicioner said is true. Any law that is not applied is a dead law and we need to start holding this people accountable. So therefore let the law be applied.

Super proud of you big sis Laurata. You started this thing right from school and you never stopped. I remember we will always call you miss information verification or Madam hate speech mitigation at home 😅. I hope that this documentary goes beyond your goal because the conflict we are experiencing in the region is being fuel by hate speech which is also misinformation forcing people to move for the sake of their lives and family. I have seen people fight, cry because they were attacked with hateful rhetoric. What I have learned is if I educate you and you don't stop, I just follow the report button. We need to start holding people accountable and it starts with how we react to hateful languages. #Peacebuilding

Those nicknames bring back fond memories and remind me of the responsibility we all share in combating misinformation and hate speech. You’re absolutely right-accountability begins with our reactions, whether it’s educating others or reporting harmful content. I hope you educate your friends in school and in church too even on social media. Together, we can work toward a more peaceful and unified community.

Hate speech doesn't just hurt individuals, it separates communities, deepens divisions, and often escalates into lasting harm. Working on this documentary as the camera and sound operator gave me a unique perspective on the effects of words on lives and societies. Through capturing this I realized the great responsibility we all have to promote empathy and understanding. Let us choose our words wisely and use them to heal rather than cause harm. I am proud to have contributed to this powerful project which serves as an eye opener. Let us continue impactful storytelling. Storytelling that educates. Let us tell our stories, community stories. The change starts with you and I.

We grew up believing these things were either true or harmless jokes, without taking the time to reflect on how they might affect our friends. Thank you and your team for reminding us of the importance of thinking before we speak. Hate speech not only perpetuates stereotypes but also fuels conflicts that can escalate into hatred and violence in real life. This has been a valuable reminder of the need to think critically and to report any hateful content we come across.

We use to laugh at this things in groups ooo. Laurata will tell us this is hateful rhetoric. She would explain and even give examples of how this could lead to a hate motivated action. Her contribution and also after seeing how people from the communities talked about use to get angry, we start understanding the extend to which this thing hurts. But to be fair, this documentary has helped me understand this more and as an admin of my group, I will encourage everyone to watch this so we can stop hate speech which continues to fuel the conflict that we tired of and push for social Coexistence

"Down the Line" ... I was wondering why such a title was chosen but after watching I understand perfectly. What would happen down the line if hate speech is not stopped? I think if we don't stop hate speech now, tribalism will become our daily breath. Conflict will be common as sugar in tea or pap We need to come together to stop it now else... it will become brutal in the future. I didn't know it was this bad. #Act now

It makes me feel bad becasuse i have sisters, friends from Bali and they are not prostitutes. One time i tried to defend them and they called me a weak man. My friend shared this video and I am glad i Watched. Thank you for shedding light on this issues because it practically becoming a norm. The first time I read something hateful was from a comedian and influencer. He literally said the most stingiest guys comes from Mbengwi and more than 3000 liked that post and the comment section was filled with laughing emojis and even more hateful remarks. I hope he sees this documentary too and know how hurtful his words are. Infact I will paste the link on his page. For me that's a start.

This documentary hits home. Hate speech has become so normalized in our society, and it’s deeply concerning. Comedians often fan the flames by incorporating it into their jokes, and many people don’t even realize the harm they’re perpetuating. In schools, students casually joke about divisive and harmful rhetoric, picking up trends from social media and treating them as harmless fun. But there’s nothing funny about words that fuel the ongoing conflict in the Northwest and Southwest regions. It’s our responsibility to challenge this mindset and educate ourselves and others. Words matter, and we must use them to build bridges, not deepen divides. This documentary is a crucial reminder of that.
