Tow Assist / ABS Antilock Brakes on Electric Drum Brakes I should add that now Lippert and Dexter have released their versions of "Tow Assist" and "ABS" Antilock Braking System for Electric Drum Brakes, you should search their technical support sites for documentation and troubleshooting direction. These new tow assist and ABS installations on newer RVs are totally different than just standard electric drum braking systems. There are apps for smart phones that can help diagnose problems with these new antilock braking systems. These new anitlock braking systems for electric drum brakes can store DTCs Diagnostic Trouble Codes that may help in identifying problems.

Very common problem. Most RVs are wired up with very poor quality materials by people who aren't qualified. The suspension under most RVs is an accident goung somewhere to happen.

Check in at the main entrance to get a map of the museum. The museum map shows the location of each aircraft on display. Also they can give you a timeline of what movies are showing at the theater. Don't forget to check out the WW2 8th Air Force control tower and quonset huts outside the museum. Above all enjoy the museum, its excellent!

I have also added the part number information in another comment. What i got was the newer style with the wider pin end as I show in the video. Here is an alternative for what looks like the original latch with the smaller pin end. elkrv.com/products/window-vs-slider-latch-only-complete-8400-8800-series-rm08407 Hope this helps, good luck

Thanks for watching, I know, sometimes you have to scratch you head and say, why did they do that. Each time we repair or modify our RV we make it better than the way they did it. Since replacing our ski we haven't had any more problems. I think our problem started because they used staples to attach the ski on the vertical lip but the leading edge had no staples. I have heard some owners are replacing their plastic ski with ones made of thin stainless steel.

Thank you for this video. We had these brake messages on a long trip across the country. The brakes were disconnecting and reconnecting. When we stopped for the night, we had a campsite with internet. We found your video and then discovered the frayed wires right where you suggested. It was heavy rain and stormy and muddy, so we weren’t able to do much but wiggle and adjust the wires until the messages went away. We also cleaned up the connecting plugs. We were not sure that we had found the problem, but with the message gone, we continued the trip. The next day, we were driving the road north of Lake Superior. It is a remote area with sometimes 100 kilometres between gas stations and sporadic cell service. It also has very steep hills. The messages came up again. We pulled into a picnic site and were able to wrap the frayed wires with electrical tape. After wrapping the wires we managed to complete the trip safely (about 1000 kilometres), with no more brake messages. Wrapping the wires was a temporary emergency fix and now we can get new wire and fix it properly. Your video got us out of a dangerous situation.

@tsrvadventures3219
@tsrvadventures3219 4 ай бұрын
Are you saying you are pulling a trailer but it's empty, like a flatbed or a box trailer? If so, Well it really depends on how heavy the trailer is and if you can rely on just your truck brakes to stop everything. Even a 20 foot box car trailer empty with a GVWR of 7000-8000 lbs will push your truck around pretty good. Not really ok. If you are getting a trailer brake disconnected message, that means you don't have any brakes on the trailer. In a panic stop the trailer could swap ends with your truck.

If I had to do it over again I would just grind out the ridge in one section in the middle of the frame and use one section to slide the latches over and remove them instead of on each side. The phillips screw also holds the spring in to give the latch spring tension to hold it closed and engaged in the track.

Instead of selling your home try renting it out. The rent will pay your mortgage and your camper payments. Use a management company to "keep the monkey off your back". Most management companies charge around 8% of the monthly rent, have their own maintenance staff and send you monthly reports. At end of the year you will get a breakdown of rent, repair costs, etc for tax purposes. If you decide full timing is not for you, then you still have a place to go back to.
@tsrvadventures3219
@tsrvadventures3219 7 ай бұрын
That's another way to do it, if your undecided if full-timing is right for you. On the other hand some people just want to be done with the S&B. I know we were tired of multiple counties trying to personal property tax us to death, and cities 10 miles away trying to annex our country home into their city limits to again tax us to death. There are many reasons why people want to get rid of their S&B when deciding to go full-time. We don't miss ours one bit.

Register To Vote - Renewal of Drivers License and Vehicle Plates - Make sure when establishing a domicile you get your vehicle license plates, and drivers license transferred to your new address. Find out the process to get your license plates renewed, maybe through an online process., Make sure you register to vote within your new domicile address. This helps establish your new address as your permanent domicile. However, keep in mind that you may get called for jury duty from the courts at your new domicile address. You need away to communicate with the courts to tell them you are not available for jury duty, or you need a exemption from jury duty.

Even if you have Disc Brakes - you still have to regrease the wheel bearings. Wheel bearing should always be removed at some point and checked for evidence of pitting, galling and signs of over heating, if so they must be replaced. For the brakes, It's easier to inspect or remove and replace the Disc Brake pads on this type of system. All you have to remove is the brake caliper.

With regard to travel trailers and wheel bearings - When repacking the wheel bearings with grease, make absolutely sure to use the proper procedure to retorque the wheel hub nut. Also be sure to install the nut retainer. If you get the hub nut too tight or too loose the bearing will self destruct. There are some axles that are designated as "EZ-Lube". These kind of hubs have a grease zerk fitting on the end of the hub. The idea is you don't have to remove the wheel bearings to regrease them. If you use this method, DO NOT use a high pressure grease gun on the zerk. The high pressure could actually push grease out of the rear drum seal and on to the brake shoes. Either way at some point you need to remove the bearings and check them for pitting, galling and signs of over heating. If so the bearings need to be replaced.

Fresh water system - when winterizing it is advisable to Not put RV antifreeze into the Hot Water Heater. It will take a long time to flush all the antifreeze out. Most of the time a tank type hot water heater will have bypass valves to isolate the hot water heater. Just thoroughly drain the water heater when winterizing. Use only approved RV antifreeze to winterize your RV. And when flushing the heater heater or de-winterizing do not turn on the water heater heating element until the tank is full of water. If you turn on the heating element when the tank is dry you will burn out the element.

Electrical Power system, don't forget about your master 12VDC disconnect switch. It's usually in one of your cargo compartments and has a big RED key switch. This switch disconnects most of the 12VDC power from your RV. If your interior 12VDC lights don't work, or your power converter isn't outputting any 12VDC to charge your battery, check to make sure your disconnect switch isn't turned off. Propane Systems - You should get your propane system checked by professionals for leaks. You can purchase a propane "sniffer" and run it alone your lines and around you regulators to see if your propane systems is leaking. Sewage System - The dump valves will have a cable connecting the pull handle to the dump valve internally with in your RV. At the pull handle keep the cable lubricated with a little oil to keep the handle moving easily. Exterior dump valves and sewer hoses have large O rings to seal the connections. These O rings wear out and need to be replaced from time to time to prevent leaking sewage hoses. The O rings are available at most RV parts stores. Most holding tanks may have some kind of simple monitor to tell you how full they are, after using the grey and black tanks a few times these monitoring systems may not be accurate, so don't totally rely on the tank monitors.

To clarify my comment about the Texas drivers license requirement, for a truck and towed trailer. At the present time - If the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of the trailer, PLUS the GVWR of the truck are equal to or greater than 26,001 #, and the towed trailer GVWR is over 10,000#, a Class A Exempt Non CDL drivers license is required. GVWR Trailer + GVWR Truck => 26,001, and Trailer weight => 10,000 , Class A Non CDL Required. For a Motor Home registered in Texas - a Motor Home with a GVWR => 26001# requires a Class B Exempt Non CDL drivers license. Some States Do Not have a drivers license restriction when towing RVs or driving Motor Homes. Some Do. If you have the proper drivers license for the State where your rig is registered, then you are legal to drive in any state.

Hey Steven, Me again. I pulled the wiring out of the axle like you did and he insulation looked like someone took a belt sander to it. I’m sorry to ask you another question, this will be my last. I picked up some new wire at the hardware store, one red and one black. My thought was when I went to reconnect the new wire, I would reconnect the same color from the left side of the axle to the same color on the right side of the axle. Well, when I pulled the old wire out out of the axle, When I pulled the wire out from the axle a took a knife to cut shave the insulation on it to see the different colors so I could match them up but turns out the wires are both the same color. Any idea on how I can identify which of the two wire connections on the left side of the axle match up correctly to the two connections on the right side of?
@tsrvadventures3219
@tsrvadventures3219 11 ай бұрын
Howdy, Yup the wire inside the axle tube just rubs raw on the tube and shorts out. The wire color going into the magnets doesn't matter. On the left side, Just take one of the main brake wires coming down from the frame, skin and twist it together with one of the skinned wires coming out of the left side brake drum magnet (doesn't matter which one) and into the butt splice connector. Then tie in your new black wire other end of the butt connector. Do the same for your new red wire. Now on the right side, just take your new black wire and do the same thing, just take one of the wires (doesn't matter which one) coming out of the brake drum magnet and connect it to your new black wire. Then connect the other magnet wire to the new red wire. Make sure when you skin the wire for splicing you get all the insulation off the wire. To test your work without having to tow your RV around, connect your truck to the RV, jack up a tire off the ground, spin it and have someone hit the brakes on the truck. Do the same with the other RV tires then you'll be assured all the brakes are working on the RV. On some trucks you have to have the engine running and the door closed to get the truck to transmit brake voltage to the RV.

Hi Steven @@tsrvadventures3219 . I really want to thank you for your replies. After I got your last reply, I got underneath the RV this morning and connected all the wires and wrapped them the same plastic conduit you used in your video. I soldered the wires together and used the heat shrink you mentioned. Then I zip tied everything to the axle. I put both axles on the right side on jack stands and spun the wheels and had my daughter in the truck to hit the brakes. THEY WORKED! My wife and I jumped in the truck and pulled the RV around town and on the highway for a road test and we could hardly believe it, the problem that had been dogging us all this time was solved. Between your video and your replies to my comments, I was able to get it fixed on my own which surely saved us several hundred dollars if we took it in to our local RV repair shop. Just another example of how the RV community takes care of each other. Thank you again for all your help.
